V2 - Questions for you about greasing the gears?
I assume you are talking about the plantary gears on the slector end of the winch..yes/no? Can this be done without removing the winch from the bike (assuming there is enough clearance)? In addition to the 800 Bomb w/the Gorilla, I also have a AC 650 V2 with a Warn and your forceful argument suggests I should also check the Warn.
Are there any springs/ball bearings/etc., that can fall out and give you one of those "Oh No" experiences or is it pretty much straight forward?
Thanks

I had to take my winch off, its alot easier that way. You pull the "rod screws" out that hold the cap on the end, and SLOWLY take the cover off, there are springs in that normally wont pop out, but if you arent careful, they can. (if they do, its easy and self explanatory on were to put them) Then just pack grease around the cylinder, using a shim, or putty knife down as far as you can. I filled mine right up! Put it back together, reinstall winch. Operate winch a few times. (it will seem to run down for a minute, but dont worry, its normal, the grease just has to wear off the connection, and it only lasts a minute or less)

Good idea on greasing the winch gears, hadn't thought about that but it sure makes sense.
I have one of the Cabela's winches that is used primarily for the plow and bucket. Have used it to stretch fence wire and net and have had no problems to date. Never have used it to maximum capacity and bogged it down to see just how hard it will pull.
