Default Warn Winch

I have a Warn winch (9 months old) and used it 2 times. The second time I was pulling a friend out of some water. His quad died, so I pulled it out while his was neutral. As I was pulling it my winch went into almost like a free wheel, so I was messing with the switch on the winch and switched it back and forth from engage to disengage. Finally I started it started to pull then it would go free again. I can take the cable by hand and just pull it and the winch has no resistance.

What could be causing this? Do you think this is a warranty thing? Could I buy parts and fix it myself? Scrap the winch and buy a new one?

Thanks for any help.

Scott

If it's under warranty, I think I'd check into that first. As long as you don't have to pay shipping or something like that...

Default Warn Winch

I called Warn and they were a big help. He gave me the option of trying to fix it myself or send it back toa factory service center. So I pulled it apart and found the spring and lever broken. Called warn back any they are sending me a new assembly, I should have it by mid next week.

Warn Great customer service!!!!

Thanks JeffinTD for the reply

Excellent. Good to know that Warn stands behind their products.

This is a new thing for warn, I think history would show terrible customer service.

I wonder if perhaps those knock-offs are starting to sting a bit?

but for 1/3 the price, a feller could buy 3 of them

I have the $64.95 Gorilla Winch, works perfect everytime, same bolt pattern and same spec's as the Warn.

I wanted Warn because I thought they were the best ones. If it fails again I will try a different brand, but I cannot complain about the service.
