Default warn winch problem

When i try to use the winch it just clicks. Is it the brushs in the winch or something else. I have not used it in a couple of months sence i was stuck in the mud pretty good. Maybe i got some mud in there and didnt wash it good enough.

Default warn winch problem

Everybody I know that owns a Warn has nothing but trouble with it, get a Gorilla Winch, I use and abuse my Gorilla and it works trouble free everytime.

Default warn winch problem

I am really surprised on the quality of the winch. I would have expected the warn to be the best on the market. I was personally worried about buying a cheaper winch, but would consider it now.

MotoF150 - Where did you buy that Gorilla winch? Let me know, because if mine fails again I am going to buy a different brand. Do they make something comparable to the warn3.0?

I got my Gorilla Winch on E-Bay, If I remember the 2500lb is $64.99 + $25.00 shipping, and the 3000lb is $79.99 with the same shipping charge. It looks, works, and bolts up the same as a Warn Winch, and everything is included, the switch, the contactor, cables, wiring, hardware, roller head, and mount plate.

My father checked it out for me. The winch itself was full of mud and everything was jamed up. Cleaned it all up, put it back together and it works fine. You would think they would make them more water proof. But i guess i just have to take it apart from time to time and clean it up.

Default warn winch problem

Hey thanks for the heads up Instigater! My Warn 2.5ci quit working and I traced the problem back to the contactor and was just getting ready to pay close to $90 for a new one......Guess who's contactor is covered and will be getting one for free though???? That's right! ME!!! Thanks again!

HMMMMM..... this is the first thread I have ever read that was bashing Warn I have never heard anything but good thing about them and I have had nothing but sucsess with mine. Maybe you got a lemon, I have heard about a recall on some that they actually didn't put grease in

You also need to check for mud and debris fouling the windings inside the winch. One of my 2.5 Warn winches was just clicking and spool was not moving in or out.

I was also having problems with the battery holding a charge so I put a new battery in ($25). Problem was not fixed. So I replaced the contactor ($90). Still not fixed.

So I took the motor apart and the salt air (and salt water) had corroded the aluminum case and there was dirt in there that was keeping the motor from turning.

AS Motoxer said, once it was cleaned out it worked great. I have now added it to my list of maintenance things to do on a regular basis. Too bad I spent nearly $130 and who knows how many hours checking wires and such.
