Windshields? Usefull or Useless
Have one friend that uses a windshield on his quad. He uses the machine for work only, farm stuff like chasing cows and fixing fence. Open country mostly. Says it's great to keep bugs out of your face and such but gets dirty really quick and is a pain to clean without scratching it. He takes it off in the winter because of the mud, rain and snow.
After watching him I decided against getting one.

I think my wind sheild was a good investment keeps me warm in the winter. I haven't taken it off since putting it on in late 2004. It does get a bit dirty but I usually look over it anyway. When going through a narrow overgrown path its good to duck down behind it to keep the branches out of your face. Mine doesn't come off in seconds like some but it doesn't bend over when you are going down the highway with the bike in the pickup either.

I like my RK Industries storage box which has a Plexiglass windshield, especially when riding country roads. It can be a pain, literally, in rougher riding as in dunes, or winding trails. If you need to stand on the pegs and lean over the bars, you'd better be careful. When that windshield pops up on a whoop you can splice your adam's apple pretty good.
I can remove my windshield in about 5 minutes though, if need be.

Truely depends on your riding. I find it to be great in the winter for deflecting wind and snow while bombong across the lake, also for ducking behind to avoid brush etc on overgrown trails.
...that being said, I find it quite annoying when I want to lean forward while hill climbing etc. also it quickly becomes impossible to see through with a good splattering of mud.
