Default Need to know, 2500lbs or 3000lbs?

Hey all. I have a 1998 Yamaha Grizzly. This thing is a tank. I have decided to purchase a winch, however I am torn between the two models that Warn makes. I don't know which would be better. The 2.5ci or the 3.0ci? I know that the 3.0 would pull my tank of a utility machine out of what ever I can get it into better, however, I can purchase a 2.5ci at half the cost. Would the 2.5 do the job, or should I just bite the bullet and go with the 3.0?\

Thanks all!
-Jason

I have a 2500, and it will pull my quad out of anything. I do carry one of the Summit kits, though, with a pulley block in case I need to double the power.

If I had it to do over again, though, I'd get the 3000- not for the pulling power but because it's better sealed.

The 2500 will get the job done. But the 3000 has a better warranty and is a more rugged winch. But I had a Warn 2500 on my old Foreman and it was pretty old and still worked just fine.

Out racing..

What are your prices on a 2.5 and a 3.0.. It shouldnt be double...

I was in the same spot as you. I got a 3.0 for 100 more than the 2.5.
Lifetime warranty on the 3.0 vs 1 year on the 2.5.
More pulling on the 3.0 vs the 2.5
the 3.0 is sealed vs the 2.5 isnt.

For the 100 extra its worth it for the warranty alone.

ive had all 3 ,2000,2500,and now the 3.0. where my bike is 770 lbs. dry i wanted to be 100% sure that i would get out. now ive had an a spot where the 2000 wouldnt get me out on a 335 i used to have and the 2500 stuggled my my 500 once. now w/ the 3.0 i haven't had any issues getting out. yes the extra $$ was well worth it to me.

Viper65, I have a line on a 2500 brand new, for $200, the cheepest that I can find the 3000 for is $400. What do you think, justified still in going for the 3000?

You know, I'm shopping for a winch for a little Polaris I'm making into a farm ATV for the place and I'm finding that yeah the larger 3k and other larger winches have better warranties and obviously have more pulling power but they are also so much heavier and physically much larger. This is more of an issue on the smaller machines like the 425 PoPo 4x4 that I'm putting together. I'm thinking a 1.5K or2K will be more than enough and be smaller and lighter. The ATV only weighs in at 5 or 6 hundred pounds. A big 3k winch could rip the thing in half.

It's not all about pulling power and warranty. There are other considerations.
