Default Gorilla Winch Upside Down - In and Out

When I finished installing a Gorilla 3000# winch on my Sportsman 450, I was happy the winch turned but in on the switch is out and out is in.

This winch mounts upside down using the model specific mount I received with the winch. So the cable is feeding over the top of the spool. I assume default is coming from the bottom.

It seems my simple, but not immediately obvious to me, solution is to pull the length of the cable out and then wind it in pressing the "in" side of my toggle.

There isn't a problem with that is there?

I don't have the Gorilla winch but any electrics I have had that have just two wires running to them you can reverse these wires and the winch is reversed.

Reverse the wires. The same soloution applies to water/fuel pumps.

The wires to the switch are polarized so I assume they are correct. If I put it all out, and then in, I will have the "in" toggle reeling the cable in at the bottom of the spool. Won't everything be right then? In and out use the same gears turning in reversed directions, right?

Call Gorilla. I haven't taken one apart and I am not sure if the gear teeth mesh better one direction or another.......

Rewinding the cable in reverse on the spool may or may not work. The spring plate on the winch that keeps the cable from ballooning on the spool may not work as well and there may be a problem, as mentioned before, with the way the gears mesh and/or the brake system.

I have a few of these and on all of them I have had to unspool the cable and rewind it in the other direction. One of them is over a year old and I have had no problems with it. The only thing you have to worry about these winches is the very deep mud or muddy water. The water/mud will enter the gears and after a while it will pack it tight and the winch wont work. You have to take them apart every once in a while to clean them out but other than that they have worked fine.
