when do u use low on grizzly 660???
i have actually climbed a tree with my atv before. i promise. i am not even kidding. not like a cat would but my front end would go up when i gave it power and then i would be on two rear wheels and then the tree would bend over and i would go up and over it. It of course was not a big tree.

As for using low to pull (MY) Polaris out of the mud, good idea, because if I am stuck, you are gonna need all the grunt that you can muster. I don't get stuck often, but when it happens, I am in there good!

I use low range whenever I'm on a trail and off the logging road. Once you hit the trail you don't know what kind of situation you might be getting into. Low range saves wear and tear on your tranny and motor. There is no need to lug it when you are off the main road. Even if you have a big machine with lots of guts it will still help to keep the maintanence down by keeping it in low range. Speed isn't an issue because once you get off the main road you can't go fast anyway or you'll kill yourself!

Forget about what top speed to use for either gear. Just listen to the motor and keep her in the smooth sweet spot. I have always taught kids on two wheelers to just keep the motor happy, not jerky lugging or screaming but right in middle sweet zone. Lots of great advise here on using low when towing or slow going and on some hills. Another point is that the motor should always be in a gear that will permit acceleration, otherwise you could be lugging.
