ATV track systems?
Has anyone used an ATV track system on their ATV? How well do they work in snow? What brands are there to choose from? I priced a set of Mattrax tracks and almost passed out because they cost almost as much as the ATV. I can get a set of Camoplast tracks for alot less, but have never seen them in person. Has anyone used a set of Camoplast tracks before? Any insight you folks can give me will be really appreciated. Thanks.

I do not have a set and when I did the prices were high enough that I began to look at jut investing in one of those amphibious vehicles like ARGO or MAX that you can put thr tracks on over the tires and use in Mud and snow and such. THey start around $10k and go up from there.
I do know the tracks for the ATV's require a certain size engine CC and some can only be used in snow, while others can be used in snow/mud/dirt. Steering can also be difficult.
I remember seeing some advertised a while back on the Can-Am website that looked good but I think they were something like $1000 a tire. So for $4000 You almost have half the cost of an amphibious vehicle.

Camoplast
The link for the track system I am considering is above. I can get them for about dealer cost ~ $2500. Just wondering if anyone has seen them, or better yet driven a set of them. There is a link on that website that shows a comparison test by ATV Rider Magazine, and the Tatou style Camoplast track system won the comparison test against two other brands. It was not the easiest to steer of the three brands, but I figure with the Grizzlys power steering it hopefully wouldn't be too bad. What do you think?

Getting the Trax system is a big mistake. If your machine can take it, they will cost around
3 grand, and for that kind of money you can buy a real good used snowmobile. Also have you
ever used a snowblower and had the dry snow blow back in your face. Well this happens all
the time with the trac system when the snow is dry and a light powder. Don't do it.

I have the tracks and a snowmobile... if I had to pick one I would take the tracks for my style of driving. The tracks are much better than a snowmobile in powder. I have a heated visor on my atv and it works great... but yes I make a snowstorm and the steering is tougher. The newer tracks are better. I have about 6000km on my tracks.

I don't know about those things, even when you just over size your tires it puts extra stress on CV,Ujoints and Axles. Imagine the stress put on them as they turn 4 of those heavy tracked mechanical units through mud or snow. When I ice fishing it takes me a hour and a half to go to some spots riding a sled through trails and across lakes. Some of the lakes are 8 miles long just to cross them and it takes long enough on a sled doing 65 mph. Those track ATV set up look like they have a top end of 20mph?
I have to say one thing about the video they look impossible to get stuck in deep powdered snow. However in the real world there are trail everywhere you want to go because some sledder has already broke a trail there already. Being the first to break trail in deep virgin powder snow to a worth while spot does not happen much, because some was always there first.

curious if anyone can tell me, maybe this is an obvious question, if a guy does get tracks for the atv, they sure seem to reach forward pretty far, then is it impossible to use a plow anymore?? yes, no?</end quote></div>
Some plow makers offer extensions for their plow mounts. I know cycle Country makes a kit for use with track systems.
