YAMAHA GRIZZ 700 VS POLARIS SP800
A Sportsman has the upper hand in towing because of the extra weight, but the Grizzly can still do a lot of work. I abuse my 660 Grizzly by dragging logs that far exceed it's rated towing capacity and it does just fine. I also plow snow with it, I have a 60" Moose plow and it pushes snow like it isn't even there. Since I still have my 660 I reserve all of the hard work for it and my 700 is mostly used for recreational trail riding...

CVT: Polaris was the one to set the standard and has refinded theirs to be bullet proof. However, I think the yamaha system might be the best currently out there b/c how the cluth engauges.
WEIGHT: This all depends on what is your main riding style and what you will used the atv for. If more for utility, go with the sp800 and if more for the sport/utility side, go with the griz700. Both will do utility work and sport/utilty riding very good. The sp800 suspension is so good that you don't realize it is heavy. Only when you get stuck is when you notice the weight of the machine, but having a 2.5 or greater winch solves that.
The griz700 seems to be a great machine and the sp800 has a proven record. To me, it really just comes down to what is your main use. GO GET SOME SEAT TIME ON BOTH. That is your best test.

You are correct. The Polaris Sportsman 800 does not have 54 hp. It actually has 54.8 hp @ 6000 RPM. I think 700vtwinman felt it was sufficient to leave out the .8, however I have included it on his behalf [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

And, I have had two dealers show me where the polaris 800 is 54.8hp and the kawie bf750 is 54.0, so who you gonna believe? If you say the polaris numbers is right, then the outy numbers are wrong. If you say the outy numbers are right, then the polaris and kawie numbers are wrong. Both can't be right if their numbers don't agree. AND, every manufacture says they have their numbers varified by a "3rd party." To get the true numbers, have 3 independent "3rd parties" do independent test without any manufacture's influence.
Remember, FIGURES CAN LIE AND LIARS CAN FIGURE.
WHO REALLY CARES....EVERYONE JUST RIDE WHAT YOU LIKE.

I still dont believr that polaris push rod 760cc engine is 54.8 HP And Kawasaki says BF 750 has 50.2 with overhead cams! I will never beleive a polaris dealer telling me an 800 SP has 54.8 hp stock SORRY! Even the Polaris dealer hear says it around 45 My cuz has a 07 800 and took it to the scales 901 lbs with a half a tank of gas so I think Pol. is fudging some numbers there also... somebody on this site a few months ago posted the EPA tests for ATV horse power but I cant remember who.......

I challenge you to get a 3rd party to do a complete independent evaluation of each quad for HP. But, that would mean you would have to pay for it and since that would be expensive, you probably won't. I wouldn't either because it doesn't matter to me. So, that leaves us to believe each manufacture's data. Thus you must believe all or none, you can't just pick and choose w/o being bias.
As far as "PUSH ROD" motors having less HP, what about the Dodge Hemi motors from the 1970's?????? The made massive HP. So that doesn't hold water. There are enough people out there that know the outy800 makes ~62hp, the polaris800 makes ~54.8 and the BF750 makes ~54. But if you want to switch the numbers of the polaris 800 to be 45 and make the bf750 to be 50.4, that is your choice.
How about not making a "big deal" of the HP and ride what you like and let other ride what they like?????? Hmmmmm, now that is a great idea....LOL.

The all talk about this BS. Polaris is heavy weight true hp at 54.8. Kawi is light weight true at 50.2 hp. I don't beliver you talk about a sportsman 800 hp 45 is wrong.
