Right now I have my front end on my 05 rubicon tore down, took the bumper off to do some to it and I had to take the winch off to. I was wondering while I had the winch off, I was thinking about putting some new grease inside of it. I have always heard you should put some marine grade grease in there. I just don't know how hard it is. I don't want to open it up and have a bunch of small pieces go everywhere.

Has anybody done this before and how hard is it? This is a Venom 3000 pound winch. How long would it take to complete the job? And is it worth it?

 

Taking it apart is fairly easy. Just keep a note of where all the parts go (there are a ton).

 

use a good grease, a cheap grade of grease will melt, turn to oil and drain out, if you use a cheap grease then get a grease that has a high concintration of " Moly", or you can use an expensive synthetic grease such as Mobil 1 or Amsoil, the synthetic grease doesn't melt and they don't absorb water

 

Where do you put the grease at? I took the motor off and put grease where I could see the gears and turned it a couple times. I did not go any further. Are you supposed to break it down any further than that?

 

there are gears on both ends of the spool just grease them and slap her back together
