I can't believe this?
Do any of younzs guys fully understand how any differential works?
Does anybody know why a differential is needed?

A limited slip differential will lock in both axles for a limited time when the opposing wheel is spinning
A limited slip will unlock as soon as the wheel stops spinning

A locker is either locked in or free, its on and off, with a locker both axles are locked.

Yes my Eiger is a 3X4 in 4 wheel drive as long as either front wheel ISNOT spinning or losing traction
but when one of the front wheels is spinning or loosing traction, for an instant its becomes a true 4X4

Lets get back to my first 2 questions:
A differential is needed because in a turn both wheels on the same axle are turning at a different speed
you guys got that?

When you have your locker in both front axles are solid, you can't steer it cause both wheels want to go the same speed, I have seen many people with a locker stuck in the mud and the only way out is keep the steering straight
when I take my Eiger thru that same mud hole I go through it no problem, even making a 90 degree turn thrrough that same mud hole.
I know that guy with the top of the line ATV with a locker paid twice as much for his ATV than I did and I understand the pride he has and some people blame him for getting stuck cause of his inexperienced riding skill and the shame and embarressment that some lowly Eiger can out perform his machine through any condition.
Its a lesson learned, just because an ATV costs more, looks better, its bigger and more powerfull doesn't mean its better. Just don't get cocky and make a fool outta yourself thinking just because you own the top of the line ATV that it will do anything any other ATV will do, cause it won't.
I refuse to name the most pathetic brand of ATV out there, but everybody buys them, and they can't perform the same as all the other brands, but if you own one, know this, its not you, its not your lack of riding skill, its the brand of ATV you own.

As a guy who owns two machines with limited slip, I can tell you when the going gets tough they are no substitute for a locker.

I'm still leaning toward a King Quad. I might step up to the 700. The local dealer is running a sale on them. I can get one for around 6100. Is that a good deal?

A couple of days ago he started looking for a 400 class machine around $5000... and now "I might step up to the 700"...

I like the way this guy thinks.

I test drove one of the King Quad 700's. It seemed nice and snappy with suspension that seemed tuned on the firm and planted side. I haven't really shopped them, but $6100 for full featured 700 doesn't sound too bad to me. Just glancing at atvtrader, I'm guessing that wouldn't be too bad of a deal...

If you are currently wondering if you should get the 700 King Quad and "settle" for a 400, you will probably have buyers remorse. You seem to have good reasoning in looking at the King Quad as a top choice and for about $1,000 more than something in the 400 class you can't go wrong. Its cheaper to go that route now than to sell the smaller quad in the future and move up to what you really want.
