Arctic cat diesel atv

speed is never really an issue because I never go over 30mph the trails I ride dont have a alot of long straights.
but then again a new atv is too expensive so Im sticking with sportsman 500.

I really like diesel power, if they strapped a turbo on it they could make alot more power, less smoke and add some fun factor.
I have an intercooled trubo diesel Jeep Liberty and it is hands down better then the gasser equivilant. Its about as fast with better acceleration, much more towing power, cooler sound and much better fuel economy. The same could be true for this ATV if they build it right, and like previoulsy mentioned, farms and other people that use diesel have lots on hand already.

Though it doesn't have a carb and spark plug, if you ever had an injection pump problem or a bad injector I would guess it could get expensive.
I like the concept of a diesel quad. If it has the typical 30-50% fuel efficency advantage, it could have a very long range without having to have an unreasonably huge and heavy tank.
Mainly, as people have posted, I think it will be popular with farmers who aready have red dye diesel around for tractors.

That 2.8 CRD is a great motor. Too bad they put it in the Liberty instead of the Wrangler. But the inside scoop says a small Cummins is headed into the JK in a year or two.

Thats what I hear as well, could find its way in the Liberty, Nytro, Dakota too, along with a larger diesel engine for the 1/2 ton pickups that is fuel effecient and powerfull but not the power monster that the Ram currently has.
I can honestly say that the deciding factor on buying my Liberty was simply the powertrain.

General Motors has bought the company that builds Jeep's Diesel engine, VM Motori. Its a division of Detroit Diesel. Which just makes the circle complete with Detroit Diesel, Penske and GM.
If you look up the Jeep UK sight all Jeeps have Diesels. Just Chrysler exports them all and doesn't leave any of them in North America. http://www.jeep.co.uk/jeep/index.aspx

Just about everything that Jeep exports is better than what's available in the states. Jeep modified the new 4-door Wrangler for export (mostly military) so that it's available as a troop-transport, or a 2-door pick-up with a 2.8 Diesel and a Dana 60 rear-end. But we get stuck with garbage like the f#cking Jeep Compass and Patriot, and the 3.8 mini-van engine in the JK. Sucks.

Main reason for the diesel is simplicity of fuel supply, so that a farmer or construction crew don't have to keep two types of fuel around. Diesel is a lot safer to store than gasoline, too - no explosive vapor.
USMC has dirt bikes that are diesel, for the same reason.
