Looking into getting a winch for my BF. I know Warn is a great winch, but what about Ramsey? I found a Warn RT30 & mount for 419 shipped, and a Ramsey3000 wireless for 428 shipped. Is Ramsey equal to/better/worse than Warn? Thanks

Between Ramsey and Warn I would choose Warn. I've owned probably two dozen Warn winches over the years, and all but one of them have been trouble free. The one that had a problem was an 8000 lb winch on a Jeep. I had the Jeep repainted, and the painter removed the winch and re-installed it again after he was done painting the Jeep. He hooked the wires up with the polarity reversed, and the first time I tried to use the winch it smoked the motor. I sent the winch back to Warn, and they put a new motor in the winch under warranty. Although they did send a hand written note with the winch that said "be sure polarity is correct when re-installing the winch". I'm pretty sure they knew it had been hooked up wrong, but they covered it under warranty anyway.
I've only owned one Ramsey winch, which was a 9000 lb winch that was also on a Jeep. I had got the Jeep hung up in the little sluice on the Rubicon Trail, and while winching the Jeep out, the Ramsey winch broke clean in half. I couldn't believe it, because I had never seen that happen to a winch before. When I sent the Ramsey winch back for repairs they refused to cover it, and said "abuse" had caused the winch to fail. I haven't owned a Ramsey winch since, but we have three Warn winches in the garage right now, ... two ATV 2500 lb winches, and a 9500 lb winch on the Jeep.

If I were buying a name brand winch it would be Warn. I just haven't had good luck with Ramsey. That said the Ramsey winches I had trouble with weren't ATV winches but heavier truck types. Maybe their ATV winches are great but their large vehicle winches weren't reliable. Not as bad as the MileMarker that was the epitome of junk however.

Best Winch is the " Gorilla Winch"
I got one of them $69 Warn Winches when I got my new ATV and that piece of junk Warn fell apart in 3 months!
I ordered a $69 Gorilla Winch from E Bay and its going on 3 years and still works like new!
You can order Gorilla Winches from 2000 to 3000lb and they are all under $100, and they come with everything, wiring, mount plate, roller face, cables, switches.
