The quad won't start due to having a weak battery. Older Polaris' are fickle that way. Charge the battery, load test it, and make sure it holds a charge. If not, replace it. The strut can probably be replaced, check Ebay and Google for parts.

The clutch cover will need to be replaced too, unless you never plan to get the quad dirty, muddy, or wet. Again, ebay or Google. While you are working on it, tear down the clutch, and clean it good with brake cleaner from an auto parts store. Check the pulley faces for scoring and scratches, and clean and regrease the weights; making sure they are in good shape. Who knows what kind of gunk has built up in there.

Then clean the secondary pulley faces, checking them for scratches, too.

Finally, check the belt for wear and stretching, and replace as needed.

I would also change the oil and diff fluids, and install a new spark plug and air filter. And it wouldn't hurt to run some Seafoam in the gas to clean out the carb, and install a filter on the fuel line.

If you are an occasional rider, disconnect a battery cable when you park it. That will keep the battery from running down. Older quads electrical systems develop quirks as they age. Which can drive you Nuts!.

For more detailed help, post your questions in the Polaris area of this site.

Regards,

Hefty

Something I noticed is that on my old 95 425 magnum 4x4 is that if you run all three headlights you will really, really tax the battery and charging system. There just isn't a lot of extra capacity and any sort of extra electrical load can cause some battery difficulties.

The CVT cover should be replaced. A new CVT cover is an easy fix but not exactly cheap though. They'll run you about 100 bucks but they're built with a little more room for the belt and they're also made of a different plastic which doesn't tend to heat and shrink like the stock ones.
