Default Utility ATV advice please

Thanks for all the responses this has been very useful forum indeed.
we had a John deere gator compact to try over teh weekend and it got really stuck in a small amount of mud, it is more suited to golf course or perfect manacured garden! Although on dry ground it is quite fast and is nice to steer. But not robust at all. We took a neighbours quad to our muddy field and even at slow speed it did not sink at all, we were impressed by the quad bike definitely.
So decision made , its a quad
thanks for your help.

That about sums it up - gators are good for sidewalks and golf courses. Maybe flat, dry fields.

You might look at the side by side models that are based on a quad suspension. They do quite well off road. Polaris makes the Ranger, Yamaha has the Rhino, Arctic Cat makes the Prowler, and Kawasaki has the Mule, though as I remember, the Mule doesn't really have an off road suspension.
