Out of all the Quads,
Yamaha, AC, Popo and now CAn-Am lead the way in CVT transmissions.. for the obvious reason that they all make Snowmobiles... and CVT transmissions have been around a long long time.....
I love my Yamaha CVT... great control, great engine braking and power transfer [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

I have 2000 miles on my Sportsman belt and I finally looked at it and it was a wast of time I just covered the thing back up,it was in that good of shape (20min) job requires two different size sockets and a Philip's screw driver for the entire job .
The SP 500 has more power than any 5 speed Utility thats still on the market,just to give you a idea of how much fooling around with a belt drive ATV requires.
The belts on the ATV are as strong as the belts found on sleds,but since they do not have as much power,RPM and have a low range they last so much longer that most people do not even carry a spare belt with them,a unheard of thing to do with a sled.

I've been riding Sportmans with IRS for over a decade and loving it.
In thousands and thousands of miles, the only time I've ever broken a Polaris belt was about 100 miles after smoking it REALLY bad. I'm talking about wedged in between trees and not moving - smoking. I carried a new belt and the minimum of tools I needed with me, and when it broke I pulled over, replaced it, and was riding again in 1/2 hour flat. It's not a major problem. It just takes awhile to take all the screws out of the cover and put them back in.
