Default Ramsey winches-any good?

Hello,
I have been looking into buying a winch for my ATV. I've looked at Warn and am now looking at a Ramsey winch for my 250. I have 3 questions:

Are Ramsey winches good (reliable, powerful, well performing)?
Are Warn winches any better?
Are Ramsey winches water proof like the Warns?

If you want, please list the major pros and cons of both winches.

Thanks for your time!

Don't know much about Ramsey but right now at Gander Mountain you can get the Warn XT25 (synthetic rope) for $299.99 and then get Motosports to match and they offer an additional $40 off....you'll get it for around $257. Or you can go to Rocky Mountain and they have special right now with around $50 off.

Wow! Thanks! I will look at these websites. I am leaning towards Warn right now anyway so this is great.

Thanks again!

Warn and Ramsey are the two best winches made hands down. I love Ramseys bigger winches for use on Jeeps and such but for ATV use I think that Warn has the overall better winch. In the last 3-5 year they have come up with a unit that is hard to beat with the featurs it has. The XT3.0 comes with a wireless remote and sythetic rope it is a very nice setup. If you want a good value winch go with the Warn XT2.5 no wirless remote but it does come with Syntetic rope it is the same one I just put on my new Grizz and I love it! Bought it from Rockymountainatv.com with the discount just like 58n65 said but you have to hurry as the sale end on the 12th I think! If you go for the RT line they are the same winch but come with cable instead of rope and are a little cheeper!

P.S. Dont forget to get your mounting plate!

On big winches I always had better luck with Warn. Ramsey winches I had on my trucks and the ones friends had on theirs just seemed to be troublesome.

Always had pretty good luck with Warn ATV winches.

Superwinch was certifiable junk no matter if ti was a little ATV winch or a larger one. Never had a lick of luck with superwinch.

Ditto what dodgehemi said. I have run warn winches on my atv's and trucks and never had a problem...not one. I tried milemarker on one of my jeeps and it was fine. It was just very slow at recovering speed-wise. Not a big deal until you have a few guys behind you waiting for you to get back on the trail! LOL! I put a Ramsey honcho 5000 on my rhino when I had it. I used it all the time (utv's just can't go where I get my popos!) and never had a problem with it. Like dodgehemi said, warn and ramsey are the two best, but I think warn has put more into their R&D for atv's and the current offers are excellent. I would highly recommend synthetic from the start, it is worth it.

Okay, thanks guys. I am going to go with a Warn XT15 (which comes with synthetic rope) for my Ozark 250. I have found a great deal on one thanks to you guys and I am confident that your recommendations to Warn will drag me through the stickiest of swamps, or at least my swamp...

Now to find a plow for myself and some good tire chains!

Thanks again!

P.S.-the dealer wanted $430 for the older Warn 1.5ci, and that is $430 for the winch alone! I will be buying my winch set-up off of the internet and get the winch, mounting plate, and accessory kit for about $400!

If it isn't much more for a 2500lb, and it will fit, consider buying it over the 1500lb. I realize the smaller one will probly suffice, but if you bury your atv in the thickest of mud it may not have enough power. Just my 2 cents....

$400 seems sort of high for a XT15 combo. I paid about $325 for my XT25 and winch plate (less than $50 from KFI Products). I'm not sure what's in the accessory kit but you need to look into it before you buy it. Let us know where you're looking at buying first.
