2004 Polaris 500 H.O. Bogging down
#1
Guys, i need help. I flipped my 2004 polaris 500 h.o in a 3 foot deep stream last weekend and now it is stuck 2 miles deep in the woods on me. I changed the oil before i went riding because it was slightly bogging down, but now that it is stuck, i noticed the air box has about an inch of oil/water mix in the bottom and the filter is wet. It will not stay running. It just quits when i give it gas. can you please help me get this thing out of the woods and i will deal with the repair later. Thanks in advance.

Can you get another quad out to it to pull it out?
Just changing the oil after getting water in it, is not always enough. You have to make dam sure you get any and all water out of the whole bike. To give you an example, after a friend sank a brand spanking new Honda Big Red side by side, they spent the better portion of the day draining it. They drained all the oil out of it, removed the spark plug and then poured a oil/diesel mix into the oil reservoir, cranked it a few times (note, not started it, cranked it, no spark plug remember), pulled the drain plug, drain it completely. They did this for HOURS until finally it was clear no water was coming out of the engine.
If you have water in your air box, you didn't fully drain it out bud.
