Default Converting to utility- quick question...

I'm getting out of a stock 02 Warrior 350 and want to gain some ability in mud and tough off-road situations but, don't want to give up any speed. I'm riding mostly trails, mud and creeks with a little bit of hill climbs here and there. Top speed doesn't mean much as I rarely go above 30 mph and mostly below 20mph. I do like to come out of turns quickly and hit straight aways with a bit of speed though.

I have my searched down to the following quads and want to know which are the fastest off the line and which are most powerful. Can you rank these 3 quads in order of speed off the line?

Mid 2000's Brute Force (600-750)
Mid 2000's Grizzly 660
Mid 2000's King Quad 700

Brute 750 has the most power for sure.

Kingquad and Grizzly will give you a better ride and are fairly even matched performance wise. Kingquad has a little more giddyup. Overall I would lean toward the Kingquad for the best all-round.

The Brute's had a few idiosyncracies in the beginning. The airbox intake prone to take on water too easily. Unsure if they have fixed that completely yet. Also the first 2005 models tie-rods and ends were too weak. There was a recall for them so if you end up going for the Brute, make sure the previous owner had the recall taken care of. Or at least had beefier rods and ends installed.

Good luck!

EDIT: Nice review of the Kingquad 700 when it came out.

I agree with Rod - BF, then KQ then Griz.

The Brute Force is available in models ranging form 650 cc's (633) to 750cc's. The BF will be most "warrior like" except with lots more power. You can get the BF in SRA or IRS.

Cool, thanks for the info guys. I'm looking at an 2005 BF 750 tomorrow with less than 200 hours and 450 miles. He didn't know about the recall so it wasn't done. Is it still possible to get it done? Do they track it by serial number like car recalls?

Anything special I should look for on this outside of the normal stuff on buying used quads?

This should set you in the right direction on the recall:
Yet Another ATV Recall – Kawasaki Brute Force Tie Rod Problems

Check for evidence of any oil leaks around the engine and either differential. Main concern with the Brute is possible water contamination. Pull the airbox cover and check for any evidence of mud. Pull the air filter, (you will need a phillips screwdriver), check the inside of the filter and ensure it is oiled. If not, either the owner has not kept up with basic maintenance or it has taken on some water. That is assuming he is still running the stock type filter. It's a shot in the dark but you can also check the dipstick for any evidence of milky oil. That would also indicate water contamination. Start the bike and watch for excessive smoke out of the exhaust also. Chances are the owner will have done their best to cover up any problem of that nature. Just keep your eyes open and if anything seems iffy, walk away.

The Brute Force is a great machine with oodles of power. Probably the best sounding v-twin out there too.

Check in over at Kawasaki ATV Forum also. Very knowledgeable bunch.

Good luck!

The guy snowed me... he said it was babied and in perfect shape and he only rode light dirt trails since it was new. The frame and suspension was rusting in every paint chip and both rear shafts were rusting. Tires were pretty low on tread and all 4 tires were banged up pretty good from what looked like some pretty serious rock climbing. Some dents were so bad on the bead, I can't believe they were holding air. It popped and backfired a bit when idling and when engine braking. To top it all off, he swore he had the title when we talked on the phone and what he actually had was only a photo copy of the title! I was infuriated at the entire situation!

I will say, I was very impressed with the power and speed. Is the Grizzly 660 even close to that? I haven't driven a Grizzly yet but, it's on my list to check out as I'm shopping.
