Has anyone got any experience with the Hitch Hand? Looks like it would work for a short trip around town but how about the long haul?

In your case, check out the following two sites:

www.atvpickupcaddy.com
www.saf-tload.com (not working right now, for soem reason??)

I have the first setup, and I have a buddy who has the second. Both are quality systems, and they only way to get 2 quads somewhere if you pull a trailer...

I've read about both of those systems.
Tell me, do you ride up or winch? Seems to me to be a pretty steep ramp. I added 18" to my ramps to drive up in my 95 3500 Chevy as I was not happy with the angle. Just traded it in on a 2001 3500 which stands even higher for some unknown reason. Could be the trans.
The 2 systems you mention are about $1000 without a winch I think. I really liked the Ultimate rack system http://www.ultimateracks.com/faq.htm but it's about $1600. Now the Hitch Hand is about $190. You can see my interest. Of course if I end up dumping a $7000 ATV on the highway I haven't saved much.

The 2001 Chevy sits up higher due to the larger frame dimension. The HD frame is almost 4" taller than the older style.

With the Ford 4x4 Dually SuperDuty (as one of the tallest stock pickups in terms of bed height), it was a challenge initially due to the fact that the ramps that came with the ATV PickupCaddy were only 8' long. After talking with the folks from CowTown technologies, they came up with a 12' set that works like a charm, and now sell. Over a year loading up the bikes, even coated in mud, with no loading problems or close calls. I ride mine up there, but they do make a winch mount for the rack. Heck, I like the fact that most people either don't know how I got them up there (there ramps are detached when finished loading) or seem scared to have to drive up the ramps themselves (as then they are less likely to try to steal them). Kind of a built in security system.

You may want to read the "hitch-hand" review at www.off-road.com/atv/HitchHand.htm. It's an interesting product.

I too have the Pickup caddy from cow town. I use it with my 2002 F250 with no problems. I ride my 2000 Sportsman 500 and the uki Eiger up the ramps(12 foot).
I also have to agree with RubiconBob it is amusing how people think you got them up there, I usually tell them me and my 15 year old son picked them up and set them up there:-)

I read the article and the line that reads "For the short haul and the occasional extra long load carrying applications this is a great device." bothers me. Why the short haul disclaimer.

Maybe the thought of a 1500 mile or longer ride with that weight bouncing there directly on the hitch is where the short haul comment comes from (for liability purposes)....
