Bought a Warn 2500 about a month ago, cursed myself for buying it the whole time I was having all that fun installing that 25pound useless piece of weight (so I thought) on my P650. Well I was out riding in the Arizona 100 degree plus desert last night(gotta watchout for those rattle snakes)and attemted a climb on a 16 foot tall riverbank when the dirt turned just plain soft under my tires (p.o.s. stock Dunlops). Digging me in and turning me sidecocked almost rolling it and about 4 feet from the top. Well I put the parking brake on and tried to figure a way to get this 700 pound machine down the hill without rolling it. Thought about trying straightn the thing out, release the brake and let it roll backwards (without me)down this hill when suddenly I remembered my $400 "useless 25 pound weight up front". I spooled out the cable, attached it to a tree and pulled myself to glorious safety. Good thing I had 50 feet of cable and a remote switch for this situation!

Its a good story. It might be a good idea to take a long a extra 50 foot of rope with you also.Just in case the tree is a little further away next time.Just a thought.

Augman, Great story. Can I have $400 so I can get one. I am hopeing that my 589's will do the trick. They have been great so far, & I don't want the extra weight up front. But I know when I have to push that heavy quad out of a whole one time, I will be writing out that check!

You were pretty luck that a tree was within 50 feet of you. Are there many trees where you were?

I have a 2002 Arctic Cat 400 4x4 and there was a special deal to get the Warn winch for $69. That is the best $69 I've ever spent. After having it I would glady pay $400 or more for the tight spots it's gotten me out of. I usually ride alone at night. I know not a good idea but thats me. Almost every time I have gone out I have used the winch to get me home. I like to "see if I can make it" through stuff I should go around. I did have the winch puke out on me. Suggestion check the cap screws that hold the winch ends together. Mine loosened up and stripped the internal gears. I had to send it the Warn for repair. Worst case where my winch saved my *** was in a soupy clay that swallowed me up to my belt when I stepped off my bike.
