KING QUAD....3 week review..
#1
Well okay have had the king for about 3 weeks now and have racked up about 200 miles of various terrains including hills, mud, trail blazing, all out flat speed runs etc. First off gonna say....its not fast...no surprise. Drag raced my neighbors HONDA fourtrax 300 and off the line they stay close for a bit..but after about 15 MPH....goodbye king. Top speed has been talked about here a lot, but its kinda a moot point. It takes so long to get to top speed why bother. The speeds I use most are in the 12-25 MPH range anyways.
OK power isnt great...but ride is. And how it goes over rocks and stuff at moderate speed makes my neighbors hondas feel like ridng mowers in comparison. I love the 3 range gearbox. If fascinates everyone seeing it in SUPERLOW 1st gear working like a TANK. The king seems really sturdy, almost overbuilt...and too heavy. Jumping isnt a great option on this heavy machine. Doing mud seems really good especially with 4WD Low engaged. My favorite thing is going down into a creek crawling and it almost falls on its nose but just keeps chugging...then hit the other bank and it almost tips rearwards but still holds on and never slips. Thats with the standard DUNLOPS, which I feel are not as bad ase everyone says....but no they arent great either. My wife promises as soon as the stock skins wear out, I can get new ones..!!
I have used it for pulling small trees a few times and it did great as long as it was in 4WD super low.....NO strain at all...and hardly any slipping. Towing a large utility trailer 6X8 with large metal ramp (500 lbs) didnt phase it all all in low range..in high it seemed a bit weak accelerating. oops forgot had a 115 lb kid on it also so 615 lbs total. I guess overall im happy with it...save for wishing for a bit more power to go up hills fast in high range. It lasts forever on a tank of gas...wont bore you with how many miles but suffice to say it ran for over 6 hours of hard use and still hasnt hit the reserve yet. Wish it had maybe an inch more ground clearance and about 50 more CCs. Damn then it WOULD be perfect...
