400cc vs. 500cc
I am looking to get a new atv. But I am not sure if I want to go with a 400 class or a 500 (maybe even 600 & up). What are the advantages and disadvantages of both. I just want a good all around machine. All around as in, relaiblity, speed, work (utility), ride, handling, mud, 4x4, hills...etc.
Some models I am considering are: the Honda Rincon, Honda Rancher 400AT GPScape when it gets here, Yamaha kodiak 450, maybe grizzly, Suzuki Vinson, AC 500i, 400i, and Polaris SP 500 HO.

Warning: do NOT buy the Vinson. I have an 02 and have had nothing but trouble with it. It is poortly consturcted and I would go into details except the list of poor items is so great that it would take too long. Best bet is to get a deal on a Prairie. The price difference is less than $500 compared to the Vinson and the same as the Rubicon.

You are better off with the Rubicon than the rancher due to size. The Rincon is untested and from the folks I know who have them it is more of a trail ATV than a utility quad. If you don't have a lot of hard work to do it would be worth checking it out. I really encourage you to look at the Praire 650. I didn't even look at Kawi and that was a mistake. Look at the details and protection on the Prairie as well as all the features and the very few complaints / problems found on forums. Also, they have a great deal right now.

Not speeking from experience, I think the Rincon is a trail machine. I do own a Rancher and a Rubicon. I would not trade our Rubicon for anything. When we are out riding and come to very difficult spots in the trails, I will take our Rubicon through and go back to ride the Rancher through. My daughters sometimes get uncomfortable in very difficult terrain. It surprises me how easy the Rancher climbs through the bad stuff due to it's weight and size. 1st gear is plent low to climb anything. The Rancher seems to be sportier. The wife and I ride double and carry another 80 lbs of cargo. Our Rubicon carries everything effortlessly. Zero problems so far. Would buy another Rubicon tomorrow.
