Default Lifting an ATV?

I'm Brand new to ATVing, and just purchased my first one, a ’01 Honda Foreman 400. And already I am planning on modifying it, I guess that’s half the reason we buy them…. I am thinking about lifting it a bit with one the available kits. It has the stock tires on it right now, 24by10, and was looking for info./comments. A good/bad idea? What problems am I likely to encounter after the mod.? Other than aesthetics, are there really clearance benefits? Suggestions on a manufacture for the kit? Any & All comments are more then welcomed. Thanks.

Hey hows it going. I have a bigbear and i got the highlifter lift kit purposely to put 27 inch tires on it. Its not the lift that gives you the ground clearance its putting bigger tires. Lifting=fitting bigger tires (not squeezing bigger tires under stock height)=more ground clearance. My friend has a foreman and lifted it and put 26 vampires under it and he has no problems with cv boots ripping or nothing....yet. We both have had ours lifted for a year with no problems but i have ripped a cv boot but i think it was from a stick. It was only 2 weeks old b4 i lifted mine. Goodluck more Hond Foreman guys will give you there experiences.

I have a Forman 450 but I didn't have to lift it to get 27" Blackwater XT's on it, and they do not rub at all. I don't like ATV lift kits, all they do is drop the upper shock mount and increase CV angles, which accelerates wear on them. You also loose down travel in the suspension. If you don't need to lift it, dont. There is a good bit of ground clearance gained by just adding taller tires.
