Tour de Forest consists of three loops whose outer perimeter is about 50 miles long. Most riding is on well-maintained logging roads, with a couple of short trail sections thrown in.
The scenery, the company, and the community is great--including the all-you-can-eat breakfasts and the Saturday pig roast.
The greatest hazard likely will be visibility, if weather conditions are dry. A thousand or so ATV's and dirt bikes can kick up quite a lot of dust, hazardous on the two-way-traffic sections especially.
Both the formal and the informal mud bogs provide lots of fun; you can ride 90 miles or so a day if you want to.
Tour de Forest makes no claim to be the Rubicon Trail East of the Mississippi; don't even expect Cochranton-level difficulty. Tour de Forest is advertised as a leisurely ride in the forest; that's what it is, and that ain't necessarily bad; folks of all ages and abilities getting together for a bit of fun. If, on the other hand, you're out to establish yourself and/or your machine as the terror of the turf, you'd best find another venue.
I think pre-registration is required; be sure to take care of this if you're attending.

Your friend shouldn't have any trouble. Most of it is on gravel forest service roads with a little bit of woodsy trails mixed in. If it is dry, it will be very dusty. I've seen guys with dust masks on under their helmets-not a bad idea. It is a very easy ride with no challenge at all. You just have to remember that it is a fund-raiser for a good cause and it makes for a great family outing for all ages. I've been there but have no inclination to go back except maybe for the fall ride. When the leaves are changing, it would be beautiful. For more info got to upcoming events at allegheny-online.com and have fun.

I went to tour deforest last spring. We camped at Cooks Forest Campground. It is about 10mi. South from Marienville. Now they don't allow dirt bikes over 125cc. I don't know why. I hope its not because a few bad riders that think it is a race ruined it for us. It was an easy relaxing ride and we rode all the trails in one day which was about 100mi. total. I think most of the trail is for snowmobiling in winter and a small part of the trail is the Marienville bike trail. I did all the trails without stoping for gas. But you can ride to the gas station in the middle of town if you need to. They give you a map and the trails are well marked. It is good organized but I would get in town early because of parking and so many people the town will be crowded.
