300 Fourtrax on Hatfield - McCoy ?
I would like to bring my 16 yr old daughter to Hatfield McCoy trail system. I have two Honda 300 fourtrax utility quads, traveling from South Carolina. Are these OK or is the trail system more rugged to require larger sport quads?? Any suggestions on easier trails and places to stay appreciated...

We just got back from our first trip there yesterday. We had a great time. I will tell you that the trail difficulty indicators are not exagerrated. When they say a trail is blue and more difficult than a green they mean it! We road a lot on the Browning fork system and also the Buffalo Mountain (to Matewan). You do have to be careful and take your time as the trails can be treacherous in some places...the climbs on some of the blues are pretty steep and long. We did very little on anything resembling a black trail and all of our riders are experienced. We had 2 Prairie 650s, a Rincon, A grizzly, an Ozark 250 (2 wheel drive) and a Fourtrax 300. The 300 was abackup and didn't go out. However, the little Suzuki successfully managed all the trails we could throw at it in 3 days. You just have to take your time and pick your line. The country is beautiful. We stayed at Marty and Lisa's Browning Fork Trailhouse. Very clean place....excellent hosts. We'll go back. You can get to their website from www.trailsheaven.com. They are right on the Browning Fork System a couple miles from Gilbert.
Have fun...
Oh yeah....remember that sections of a green trail can become blue overnight if it rains...proceed with caution and you will have the ride of your life!

Its been said before that its not a good idea to be taking inexperianced riders to this area. I too belive it wouldnt be a good idea to be taking a 2 wheel drive up on the black trails. I just was down there a little more then a month ago, with 4 very experianced riders and took every trail they had to offer and the while on the black trails often the lead guy would send down large rocks just by riding the trail. They can be a chalange to say the least. But sick to the green / blue trails and take you time and you should be fine, just my 2 cents.....Rob
