swift, I live in Greenwell Springs too. I personally have had TWO four wheelers stolen from me in the last 10 months. I am glad the cops are checking. I got MY 400ex back in little pieces after some a$$holes cut it up for parts. My 5 year olds brand new Suzuki 50 was stolen, I got it back after it had been under water for a couple of days.. try to tell a five year old why somebody would steal his Christmas present.
I hope they hammer the guy that sold you that bike, and I sure hope he doesnt tell them you knew it.
Sorry if I seem harsh.. but I get TITLES when I buy my bikes.. Everybody that owns or sells their bikes legitimately has a TITLE.
I busted the last two guys that got my 400ex because I had put a 1000 dollar hidden night vision camera on my bikes.. Now I have had to spend another 1500 for a wall, a garage door and set of motion detectors and an alarm upgrade on my stuff... just to keep people from ripping me off, and to keep me from going to prison for killing them under my carport.
There have been over 40 four wheelers and several high dollar pro mowers stolen in this immediate area in the last several months, along with everything else that you can pawn that wasnt tied down. People are sick of this crap and are ( I know I am) putting a ton of pressure on the Sheriffs deputies to do SOMETHING to stop it.
bet you got a REAL good deal on your bike....

ITs not just happening in the Baton Rouge area. Two of my buddies bikes were stolen in the last year. One of them was recovered. They had taken the bike and painted and changed a few other things on it. But the vin and a concered neighbor brought the a$$holes to jail. They had 15 stolen bikes in there posession. The sheriffs dept. in Lake Charles considered it a huge bust because 9 people were brought up on charges.
I saw on the yamaha forum that Velocity's (tuned) raptor was stolen from his house along with a large dollar amount of parts. I hope they find his bike as soon as possible. Its one fast machine. Do these people know how much time and money go into these bikes. I would like to go a few rounds with any of them.

Yea i knew i probably shouldn't have bought the bike when he told me it didn't have a title, but it was hard to think that he would sale me a bike that was stolen. It was my parents next door neighbor's son who sold it to me and he is as old as my dad. And his dad and my dad are friends and it would kind of be stupid to sell somethin to somebody that lives next to you that was stolen since it could come right back to you. Personally i don't think he stole it. He said he bought from a buddy of his that was in need of some money. wether or not he knew that he stole or not i don't know.
About the cops crackin down on this i believe they are. When they pulled us over they weren't even interested in givin us tickets which they never did. I think it was just an excuse to run checks on our bikes to see if they were stolen or not and low and behold mine was 2 years ago. Also i know that they busted a guy in central that had been goin aroud and stealin bikes, and unfortuneately it was someone i knew, but i wasn't really friends with him he was just someone that went to my school. But i do believe the police are doin somethin about it and hopefully they keep up with it because i plan on buying a knew yfz 450 or the knew honda depending on when it comes out depending on how lond it takes me to get the money for it.
P.S. badittude where in central do you live ilive in northwoods

Hi everybody, I realize I have not posted in quite some time, but I have been busy. I have found several tracts of land in the Baywood/Grangeville area that would have suited us perfectly. It was another story entirely to locate the owners and actually get to talk to them. I found 200 acre piece of property that had been heavily mined for gravel, and what was left was a sport ATV paradise. Hills and scrub pines. All pure white sand with some gravel left as a parking area that would have been great for campers. I finally found one of the owners, and she said the property was embroiled in an estate battle that includes TWENTY TWO kids and grandkids. Aint gonna work.
The second piece is also 200 acres plus or minus. I managed to bogart my way into the Baton Rouge office of the Attorney that owns it. He initially said no way, but I told him that I was a Deputy here in Baton Rouge, and that several of the prospective members were also deputies, and the rest were responsible family types. He still seemed resistant, but it so happened that his partner walked out, and we knew each other. Well, he said he had promised a forestry worker that he could fish the ponds on the property, and was worried about leasing the property after making that promise. I assured him that his friend would be welcomed. As I left I told him that I was still exploring options, and would get back with him. It was my intention to only return once I had secured quotes on a magnificent insurance policy to make him feel all warm and fuzzy and to protect both him as the owner, and us as the leasees.
The next battle was insurance. I contacted every commercial insurance company in Baton Rouge, and was hung up, on put on hold, never called back for weeks. Nobody seemed to want to even discuss insuring our "hunting club". I finally got several quotes from a company here with the help of a nice, commission hungry junior agent. Here is what it looks like:
1m dollar total coverage per year, 500k per incident - 1000 dollars a year
1.5 m dollar total coverage per year, 750k per incident - 1250 dollars a year
2 m dollar total coverage per year, 1m per incident - 1500 dollars a year
I like the 2m dollar policy, so 1500 dollars a year plus the 200 acres times 20 dollars a year per acre give or take, equals 5500 dollars a year. Add about 500 dollars per year for posting materials, and gate repairs and fencing supplies brings us to about 6k.
I am thinking about 30 paying members would cost about 200 dollars per member per year.
We could charge guests 10 bucks a weekend. If they come for Friday afternoon only, 10 bucks, the money would be used for continuing improvements to the property, and help pay for campground electricity service.
I will follow this post with a link to a recent satellite photo of the property, but here is a verbal description:
200 acres just north of the Granville, Louisiana curve on La 37. About 120 of the acres are on the EAST side of La 37. This area is wooded, and (I THINK) recently has been cutover. Maybe 3-5 years ago. 80 of the acres are on the WEST side of La 37 and are pure, beautiful sand bordering the Amite river. The river here is typically 1-4 feet deep and is just awesome to lounge in during the summer.
I actually believe that this would be a great dual purpose recreation/hunting lease. During any times when any of us may be hunting, the riders could stay over on the west side. During times when nobody is hunting, It looks like some great trails could be cut over on the wooded side. Only drawback I can see is that you have to cross La37 to get back and forth. (gravel truck route)
I am just about ready to back and see this Attorney. I wanted to have ALL my ducks in a row before I went back. I have a copy of the quotes, and I want to ask him permisson to scout the property. I am going to offer to extend our paid insurance to any guests he allows on the property, as long as they sign in.
I intend to handle the collection of fees yearly, and the collection of guest fees at a steel box at the gate that members would have the combination to. The guest fees and the sign in sheet would be removed each sunday evening by a full member.
I will post a photo of this property, and hopefully will have some news for you as soon as I can get in to see this man. He put his kids through college leasing this property to the gravel companies, and now its mined out.. perfect for us. The woods look great too, but I need to go walk that side...
Again, sorry for the delay, but I have been working at this, and hated to post false hopes.. he seemed pretty open to the idea at the end of our last meeting, but you never know.
This can NEVER be referred to as a riding club. There is not an insurance company in South Louisiana that will touch that. This property owner would never touch that. I told him that we were a group of friends that wanted to lease the property as a camp for fishing, hunting and some recreational ATV riding, as well as enjoying the sand and the river with our kids and families...
Maybe I will get lucky.... yall keep your fingers crossed!
