Whatever you have take it and have fun. We took some extra gas....especially on sport quads..some of the trails are pretty long. We took slime but didn't need it. We heard all kinds of horror stories about flats, bent rims,,,etc. We didn't have even one flat (rode all the trails we could find). You have to use common sense and pick your way sometimes. Take extra water...cell phones are pretty worthless. GPS isn't necessary as the trails are really well marked. get an updated map at the ranger station as they are constantly expanding the system. Have fun. Do remeber though that when the edge of the trail is a 500 foot drop off you can't ride like you are in sand dunes! by the way..we took 2 Prairie's, One Grizzly, One Rincon and one Ozark 250. The little Ozark went everywhere the big boys went.

Air your tires up too 5.5-6 lbs of air and everyone at least needs a good rear skid.
When you are leading your group and come up on another group coming towards you.....hold the # of fingers up that corresponds too the # of riders behind you. Everyone should do this.

As far as permits I know you can pre-purchase them on line at the Hatfield-McCoy website. That's what I did, and they'll mail them to you fairly quickly if you are not headed there right away. Otherwise, you can get a permit at the trailheads in the morning or it seems like every little gas station or otherwise will have them. Have a good time man.
