Thanks

Hauler's work good for sporties because they allow you sidehill better... asside from being the best performer in drag races.
You probably won't be doing any side hilling with the scrammy... if you are... you 'da man!!!
I've climbed banshee hill with the scrammy with hauler extremes on it... never tried it with the sand stars...
sand tires are a good idea for the scrammy but not required. It does good without the sand tires, but they do help out a bunch.
As for style of tire... you're not going to see a performance difference between the two on a scrambler, it's an anvil on wheels. On a sporty... big difference.
I would like some opinions here...Have some friends that want to get a quad. They have 3 kids, the oldest is 13. They will only be able to get one quad for now, but want one that will be the most versatile for the family. Dad will ride it, but mostly they want to make sure they have something the kids can ride when they are with other friends that have kids that ride. They are not heavy into quads(YET) so they are figuring on only using it 4 times a year or so. They won't have the funds to buy new. I am thinking a 250cc, but don't know much about that size quad. I also haven't really shopped prices. They do want a fourstroke.
And I know this will probably start a Brand war, but what's the best quality maker for the money? Which seem to be the most reliable used and if they are only looking to spend $2500 at most, what are they liable to get? Dad used to be a race car driver, so he can do mechanics, but to start, they want something that will just go for everyone to learn on. I doubt they'd get into racing, at least at first, so mostly trails and dunes.
Thanks for any input.

How old is the youngest? If the entire family is riding this quad it can't be something too big for the youngest, but be too small for the dad. I'd say
Honda 300
Suzuki 250
Honda 300
Suzuki 250

Well, my boss, Kenny is 6'2" 200lbs, he's been riding a 86 Honda 250 Fourtrax for years, on the trails he can hang with the best of them and he keeps the throttle pinned on the open roads and dunes. My point is, he makes a 250cc quad work for him with no problem, so the father could go with that size which would be alright for the younger ones. But on the other hand, I haven't been around little ones trying to learn quad riding, so a 160cc might be better for them, but alittle small and underpowered for the father, even though I rode Wingdudes Zuki 160 at the dunes and had fun on it.
Good Morning PSAR
Wish I could have gotten into chat alittle earlier last night, pretty busy, was suprised that many people were in at one time, 6 or so, I'm sure 2mny is happy his site is being used once again for chat and picture posting is really taking off

Jayna,
Best starter quads for the entire family are either the Suzuki z250 or Handa 250EX. Both are semi auto 5 speed with no clutch and they both have reverse.
The Honda 300Ex has a clutch so is harder to learn.
They want to ride only 4 times a year? HAHAHAHAHAHA That thought won't last even as long as their first ride!
I myself of course would recommend Honda, a biased opinion, but they are bullet proof. My wife has a 250ex and it works great for her although it is a little underpowered in the dunes. She still has fun on it though.

Thanks for the suggestions, I was wondering about the clutch thing. Now where's the best place/places to start shopping? Dealerships don't seem to be the way to go, at least I wouldn't think, not for used anyway. Any suggestions on sites/publications to start reading through?
