Sean, the lower the number the higher the gear ratio. You want a high number for acceleration say 3.00 to 1 (that's 3 teeth on the rear sprocket to each tooth on the front one, say 30 X 10 or 33 X11). A high gear ratio, say 20 on the rear and 10 on the front, 2.00 to 1 or 20 X 10. the lower the number the higher the gear ratio. In your tranny 1st gear is like 4 to 1, 2nd is 3 to 1, 3rd is 2 to 1 and high is 1 to 1, which gear gives you the best acceleration and which gives you the highest speed?. The lower ratio (higher number) will let your motor rev faster, for faster acceleration until the motor runs out of revs, the high ratio (lower number) will let your top speed be higher but acceration will be slower.
