Just in case, any ideas on where to get said gun restored?

Thats pretty much the word i got off the marlin bulletin board you posted earlier. They also said it didn't come with holes for a scope so it was drilled and tapped. I will probably keep it as is cuz my wife would go ape scat if i throw money at another gun.

TReX400, I forwarded the pics to Randy and here's his response.
"Fred since it has been blued I believe it would be treated as a 39a for value. It looks in good condition so $300-500 depending on the buyer. Be advised if he were to have it professionally restored, re-case colored $$$ an original 39 goes from $1300 for 60% and $3000 at 95%. Not many in great shape due to the fact these rifles were shooters. (My prices come from 27th Edition of Blue Book of Gun Values)hope this of some help.

Not a 39A, it's a 39 made between 1922 and 1938. Posted a couple of pics on my page.

I would have to run down my gun show partner and see what the book says. Marlin is still producing the39A and they aren't drawing any special pricing, but a 4 digit serial number??????? I e-mailed the flake cop and will see what the book says. I also contacted a Marlin collector I know and will see what he says.

Hey Bear/Tencubed, i got a Marlin model 39 I'm trying to determine the value of, any ideas? I've seen them go for 1500 for a basket case and i've seen pristine ones go for 7500. the one i have is pretty much mint, the only thing is, i was told the receiver was originally case hardened and mine appears to have been blued. Its a very nice job but from what i've been told it's not the orginal finish. Any thoughts? Oh yeah it has a 4 digit serial # which leads me to believe its a first year, and has a weaver scope.

We're glad DJ is ok.
My brother and I had some of the worst driving records... Though, my brother took the cake when he drove over a honda civic with our dad's 56 Ford pickup. Not good... especially when he drove home right after. Front end was almost wiped off the truck. The front tires were pointed outward. The police just followed the debris around the corner and up the street to our dad's house. Dad was watching tv when he heard the police say "get out of the truck... put your hands on the truck". Dad went down to the police station and let him out of jail. When they got to the car in the parking lot, the passenger door was locked. Dad drove home... Not a word was said about that accident after then. Truck was sent to the shop for a few months and the frame was straightend, fenders were replaced. Then my brother took out a fire hydrant with the car... a few months later he was in the military.

You haven't really lived until you drive your best friends car through a farmers fence, barbed wire at that. You give the car a great barbed wire pinstripe job from front to back and over the roof. Oh yeah, you also take a couple of fence posts into the windshield and down the side of the car. You see, when you hit a barbed wire fence the posts break off but stay connected to the wire. Use your imagination and you'll understand.
Then you give your car to your best friend so he can drive it home from WSU because he has to get to work. Then you drive his car back the next weekend, over the pass, WITHOUT the windshield, wearing motorcycle goggles!
To top it all off he's still your best frind to this day, almost 30 years later!
This is what can happen when you try to drive after consuming 20 shoots of tequila! Or so I'm told!
