This is the short version of what we teach our new SAR folks about driving on logging/gravel roads. Riding and driving on logging roads is different. I have been driving these for a gazillion years, from hunting to SAR etc. They are not 2 lane roads. Vehicles generally do not drive on one side or the other, they drive in the middle. Until you meet somebody coming at you, then you move over to pass each other. Two reasons > 1. They are not wide enough for two lanes 2. The gravel on the roads accumulates at the edges, thus making the edge of the road "slippery", thus making it dangerous to drive this way. You should alway approach corners slowly and move to your side of the road, as best you can anyway. Bottom line, we need to be careful. Enough for now.
Happa gets a spanking from Quad4fun I would tend to disagree on the width issue, there is enough room for a vehicle to drive on the right side of the road and for a quad to ride past without running off the road. When a vehicle is totally on your side of the road rounding a corner, you have nowhere to go but off the road, no matter how fast your'e going. If I was driving a vehicle on those roads, I would atleast hug the extreme right side of the corner, and run the center of the road on a straightaway if I can see for a long distance. And yes I was going too fast for the speed limit on the roads, but then we're all guilty, not too many riders run 25mph out there. Bottom line, I was exceeding the speed limit, he was on the wrong side of the road, he's fine, I'm fine, Craptor's fine.

Quad4fun

Great post on awareness and what should be worn and carried on these trips. Thanks for taking the time to enlighten us and hopefully we all can remember the little things we were taught when we first started out in the quading world. Had fun riding your Rincon and glad you injoyed the Raptor. Are you still on for Saturday?

We had a great time yesterday! It was a pleasure meeting more of the forum members and other friends.

Sorry I didn't hang out too much, had a friend with me that wanted to get some riding time in... Didn't want him going off by himself...

Just have to say...WOW! What a difference that exhaust makes... Still have to get the jetting right. That should be sorted out this week.

This is from another thread in the Polaris section...

Just thinking of you Sandbomber .... or is it Starsky...

================================================== =======
I was thumbing through one of the mags at the stand today and saw a Predator with Dale JR. graphics. Now this is the April issue and they usually try something funny. Is that really coming out? I did not read the story. I wouldn't be interested anyways, I'll wait for the Starsky and Hutch DS 650. That is more realistic since the DS and the Gran Torino are the same size.

Default Puget Sound/Seattle NW Area Riders Meet HERE!!!

Whewww,... I am so beat after this week-end! I told Happa not to schedule anything for both Saturday and Sunday again, way too busy a week-end for us. I don't think we spent more than a couple of hours at home all week-end. When we got home last night, our cat Bubba, just looked at us both like we were strangers, poor thing.

Saturday was a blast riding in the Girls Only Ride with nwcutie as our fearless leader She did a great job and even avoided a part of the road that Larry said I would hate, shale rock or something (I don't know if it was intentional or not but I sure was happy!).
Also a big THANKS to RealtorRider for hauling his trailer all the way out there for us ladies to have the use of, we REALLY appreciated it Bill . It was a beautiful day and a great turnout, good time all around. Got home later than we planned, hurried up to get ready for morning.

Sunday morning came pretty fast and before I knew it we were back in the Bronco again headed east this time,...early! Met part of the group for breakfast in North Bend and caravaned together to Beverly. There was already a group camping, some friends of Bigdaddy and Thumpie so Bigdaddy met us in the parking lot and lead us back to where they all were camped.

What a line up of vehicles and quads! It would have been so cool to have had all the quads in a picture but it was difficult enough just trying to get the people together for the pic. The weather was AWESOME, warm and sunny! Everyone got to ride and this time I was even able to go up to the infamous dragstrip and watch, thanks to having a quad now! What a hoot! HappaRap and King just kept calling each other out, it was so funny! It was all very fun until the wind started. OMG, I don't think I have ever been in wind that strong before, sand was in your eyes, in your nose and in every bite or drink of anything you consumed. Finally got so bad we all decided to pack it up and go, at that point exhausted from fighting that wind for a couple of hours by then.

Trying to hold on to everything as you are trying to pack things up and get them back into the Bronco, ...., jeez..trying to carry a folding chair, bag it goes into and coke can so sand cannot get into it, while trying to hold baseball cap on head. Then drop chair bag, stoop to pick it up pooring coke on chair and shoe as cap continues to try to fly off helmet-hair head. Can't ask for help because you have to open mouth to speak and sand goes in.......what a freaking joke.......I gave up at that point and basically everything just got thrown into the Bronco, and we called it good to go. We finally got home about 5:30, both exhausted by then and trying to beat each other to the shower....at which point life became great again!! Water is amazing isn't it?

Fantastic time though seeing everyone. Great to see 2mnyToyz back to his old self (with quite an intimadating Black-Widow effect looking machine I might add) and also seeing Thumpie riding on her hot new quad and loving it! And except for poor Dinger, we all got home without incident. Oh, excep that while in Ellensburg I got out of the Bronco and that wind (still!) grabbed my door and almost ripped it off, Larry says it bent the hinges just a little (opps, my bad!)

Default Puget Sound/Seattle NW Area Riders Meet HERE!!!

i went to washougal yesterday. the day started at 3:00 am when i got up to go meet the guys i went with, moved my quad to thier trailer & took off shortly... when we got there it sprinkled a little rain but then stopped, it was just overcast all day, track conditions could not have been better... no dust, just a little mud in spots, and incredible traction! I had a blast, the track is sweet! a total of 36 quads showed up to race.
i ran open amature, finshed 2nd & 1st for a 1st overall. the only unfortunate thing is that there was only 2 riders in my class....(they ran multiple classes on the same moto) my 1st moto i was 2nd or 3rd out of the gate(of 10-12 riders?), then i stalled it at the 1st turn, after getting going, i passed 3 people back before the end of the moto. the second moto, i came out 3rd out of the gate then passed the other 2 riders in the 1st lap, i hit the gas & put a good distance between myself & the rider on a z400. the gasgas was running like a scalded cat.

i really wish quads could ride there more often, i'd go- the track is awesome!

glad to hear you all had a great time on your rides too...

goldendale is next!

Well my friend Dinger is tuff, his flight, landing and smashing of his QUAD was severe. But as severe as it was, Dinger walked away looking good. That to me is a SAFE day....
