Years ago I had a two stroke bike that started eating pistons and acting lean. finally chased it down to the oil mix pump. It was slipping on the shaft from time to time and letting the mix go lean. Cost me three sets of pistons and one jug to find it. Solved the problem by bypassing the auto mix junk and pre mixing the fuel. That way you know for sure.

Don't recall anything about an airstrip near your home. Only places around Seattle I have flown are Marrymore Park and a private strip near Arlington.
As to the crashes, there is a saying that there are three kinds or RC airplanes. Those that have crashed, those that are going to crash and those that don't fly. Lots of places that have flight lines also have area's for RC cars and trucks.
Where is this flight line located? Kind of like to get hooked up with a club in the area as the last group I joined has sort of fallen apart with the passing of several members. They were mostly folks older than me by several years.
Maybe your kids would like to learn to fly, I have a full set of trainer radios and some easy to fly planes.

There is a strip just north of Snohomish on the Snohomish - Machias Road.
It is operated by the Seattle Radio Controled Club. At least that's the name on the building.

PSAR: baby gur turns 1 on tomorrow. We are gonna have a gathering, to support such accomplishment. If you read this, you are very welcome to come help party with us. If you would like to attend that would be great. If not she might forgive you later, with alot of therapy.
We are gathering @ 6 o'clock (dark), and will get under way around that time. If directions are needed pm or call.
Oh yeah, I'm a dirt bag for the short notice.
