That's splitting hairs... I could pull a Poindexter and post a bunch-o-chit starting with F=MA... then F x L, L= the distance from the hitch to the center of the axle... and so-on, then considering the front end is lifted by the weight, but only neglegable... just use the actual toung weight. Toung weight will be dependant on how you load the trailer...

Bear in mind you'll need to weigh the motorhome in a fully laiden (water, food, gear, bodies) condition as well to get the true number.

Use the gross numbers given on the trailer and the motorhome.

5,000lb hitch on a class c is really good. You'll need to look at aluminum enclosed trailers for something that is useful. They can be ordered taller than 6'. One of the reasons I went to a diesel pusher is so that I could buy a standard car hauler. My trailer is a 20' Continental (mfg by Forest River) 3500lbs with a 7000lb GVW... pleanty for what I do.

My previous MH had a 3500lb hitch, so I was stuck with buying an expensive aluminum trailer to keep within limits. By the way, that expensive aluminum trailer is for sale .

Have you ever had a problem not finding water before reaching your destination?

Roll the landing gear down on the scale ONLY............Weigh it...........Pull trl. only on scale...........Weigh it........
Subtract Smaller numer from Larger number and you have a tong weight..........
I've read that tongue weight is 9-11% of the trailer weight, I'll settle for 10%, easier to figure, on my MH tongue weight is 350, (even though hitch tongue weight is rated 500), so I can go 3500lbs on tow, but seems I only have 500-800lbs extra to load on the rear axle, that's why I was wondering how much of the actual tow weight is transfered to the rear axle and I'm sure there are many variables in this calculation also.

That's all right, aluminum trailers are spendy. I looked at other used ones that were advertised (same as mine) and they're asking $2,500. So I think I'm asking a reasonable amount. They just have to have the need...
