One Fly I agree with you as far as your statement goes. If the load on the trailer is left in the exact same place a longer tongue will make it easier to pick the tongue up. This means the weight on the tongue has been reduced hence less effort to lift it. However, IF you are wanting to maintain a 10% of total trailer weight on the tongue to have a trailer that does not want to "duck walk" or have other bad handling habits you will have to move the load forward on the trailer. Also, it should be mentioned that an overly long trailer tongue will also allow a tail heavy trailer, less than 10% hitch weight, to duck walk and sway way more than a trailer with a short tongue.

As far as the front tires leaving the ground due to hitch weight. Well, if you have a motor home loaded that heavy in the tail and that much tongue weight from a trailer you better move some of those fish up to the passenger seat. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]
