good morning PSAR.

I just found out on the news, one of my classmates from Mt. Si highschool was killed by a drunk driver in Enumclaw.

R.I.P. Shane Wyrsch
I saw that on the news last night and I was wondering if you knew him.
Sad news.

Now I'm going to preach. For any of you out there who have a few drinks/beers and you think "I'm fine to drive" Think again. Fatalities caused by drivers who have been drinking happen far too often. Unfortunately it's not usually the drunk driver that's killed. It's the innocent person in the other car.

If you drink, please don't drive!
I will second what Rod says here. It only takes an instant for a mistake to turn tragic. It's a heavy subject, but one that we shouldn't be afraid to discuss.

I am happy to be the designated driver if anyone ever needs it. Don't matter how far away you live, I just want to see the people I care about get home safe.

I agree with all of the above, no matter what, one should never drink and the drive. Juile & I have an agreement, before we go to a party we decide which one is doing the drinking and which one is doing the driving. I will not drive even after 1 drink, it's just not worth taking the chance IMHO.

Sorry to hear about your friend Bill We lose way to many people to drunk drivers

I just lost a colleague about 3 weeks ago to drunk driving, he left behind 2 small children who he had just gained custody of after a long court battle

You know its funny.. I always wore a helmet While in the ramps. But never wore one on the street launching stairs, and sliding rails.

Many years ago I spent some time as a Deputy Sheriff in Klickitat County. We did a lot of single man patrol in remote areas and as such picked up the aftermath of a lot of wrecks. Aside from purely weather related slip into the ditch type wrecks nearly every fatality I saw was alcohol involved. Way too many times I saw the folks that were just driving down the road have there lives turned upside down because of an impaired driver. I'm really glad to hear One Flys experience has brought some good to the community and I really hope designated drivers become the norm for the groups gatherings. I'll second what LJ said. If you need a driver to get you or your rig home, give me a call. I'm retired and it is seldom I would not be immediately available. 24-7 My phone number is on the PSAR site.

MB, sorry about your friend, no good reason for a life wasted like this.

That was definately a sad and tragic story, as they all are.
I think I've even talked to him a couple times while up on searches or training up there in that area.
There were people reporting that drunk a$$ before the crash, at least some good folks tried to do the right thing.

I've seen many fatality crashes caused by drunk a$$es.
Just read in the paper today about one of them that was sentenced for one I was on near my house.
The judge gave him the low end of the sentence, 2 years 7 months. What a freaking joke.
The guy and his girlfriend were jacka$$es at the scene before we transported him.
I wanted to kart his a$$ over to the dead guys car and show him, but wouldn't have done any good.

99% of the drunks I've seen at these fatality crashes (and even the ones that weren't), don't have a freaking clue what they did or are so drunk they don't care.
They want to know about there car, what are we doing, tell us to leave 'em alone..... or they are trying to be really nice, etc. etc. etc.
Those are calls where political correctness and being nice are out the window.
Frankly, I don't care if they are a stranger or good friend............
I will still treat as best we can for what is wrong with them and get 'em to the hospital, but I'm not their friend and won't act like it.
I tell them they just killed somebody and to shut up and let us take care of them.

Anyway, you are right on Rod with your comments.
I have the utmost respect for those that don't get behind the wheel and/or are smart enough to use a designated driver.
Yes, even for those that have made the mistake of drinking and driving and were either caught or realized their mistake before hurting someone ore getting behind the wheel again, and have learned from it.

I think we should bring them back to the station here and make them watch us extricate the poor person(s) they just killed.

If the male approaches her and she does not swing her tail sharply to one side she is not receiving yet. A little persistence on his part will most likely bring her around.

Last I heard you can't even force the drunk, after they have sobered up, to view the pictures of the wreck and their victims. You can present the evidence in court but for a judge to force them to look at the evidence in this case is considered "Cruel and unusual punishment". Least that's how it was years ago, may have changed by now. I used to leave the pictures laying in plain view when I would interview them about how the "accident" occurred. Usually there was little or no reaction to the carnage. Sometimes I think there should be retroactive birth control.
