Default Puget Sound/Seattle/Northwest Area Riders Meet HERE!!!

Friday, while putting some gear away, I find my preddy tags. Oh joy, time to ride. The kids and I are ready - woohoo! Can't get the lt80 started. Try all kinds of stuff, finally pull the plug. Crap, it's fouled. Time to get a plug, nah, better make it two so I have a spare. More driving and time and I get that handled and the plug changed.
.
Then the dang kids get hungry. By the time we finally get out on the sand it is early afternoon. We are having a nice ride when Ricky gets stuck on a little hill. I go back to say he can take it and find his chain has snapped. Crap! So, I send Michael back for a tow strap while I hang out with the Rickster. I notice that the kid needs to brush his teeth as we wait and wait and wait. Turns out out Michael ran out of gas on the flats - oops! Then we he finally made it to the trailer he couldn't get in cause I forgot to give him the key - double oops!!

By the time he made it back with a tow strap, I thought I would scream if I had to play one more round of, "I am thinking of an animal and its name begins with........" So I went and got the pick up, drove out, and threw the lt-80 in the back. I wish I had thought of that an hour earlier! D'oh

So, back into Tillamook. At the Honda shop, the guy says, do you have the chain? I look at him blankly - it fell off. He said, these shouldn't snap, when did you lube it last? I looked at him blankly and he sighed heavily and proceeded to sell me a chain.

Well, since I'm in town, I decide to go to Schucks for a fuel filter for the genny. Did you know that they 2006 Onan genny uses the same fuel filter as a 1970 Torino with a 302????????????? Neither did I, but an hour later (I had THAT part) I found out when the parts counter person finally triumphantly found the match.

So, back to the campground, change the fuel filter on the genny and it still doesn't work! Good grief! The problem must be in the lines somewhere. So, resurrecting the memory of Yam926, Kingraptor, and the other youngster on the trip when my fuel line froze on the brown pickup, I come up with the bright idea of running the fuel line into a gas can since the fuel pump is working. Just one problem - I didn't bring my gas cans because I have the fuel station. Thank goodness, my neighbor has a spare he let me use. We run a line in and voila! the genny runs! I just have to make sure we keep gas in the gas can. And to keep out sand, I fill the space at the top with a rag - not smart, but keep the spark away and it should be good.

Ok, problems so far overcome. Ready to put the new chain on the lt80. Hunt around to borrow a chainbreaker and someone who knows what the heck they are doing and we find it is the wrong size chain - I'm thinking that the reading glasses on the counter should have been on the guy's face so he could have read the part number!

Oh well, the genny is going and we watch the movie "eragon" with a father and daughter from next door (she was 15 too.)

So went day 2!

Default Puget Sound/Seattle/Northwest Area Riders Meet HERE!!!

Friday night, the monsoons started!

Saturday dawns and it is miserable, wet, windy, and cold. I wake up and panic because I am supposed to get the big coffeepot of coffee, the oj, apple juice, cranberry juice, and some cups out to the sandcamp around 8:00 am for the cleanup. I look at the clock and can't remember if the time is correct or an hour off - shizz! If its correct, I'm golden, if its not. I might as well go home before I'm strung up. The folks getting up in that mess to pick up trash want their coffee, dangit. So, I race around tapping my fingers while the coffee brews then run it out to the sand camp. No problem, it is 7:50, not 8:50 - I got something right this weekend at least.

The weather stinks though and the lt80 still doesn't run.

We dink around though and later it's time for the potluck and the weather is still horrid - the wind is throwing rain and sand on the food, Ricky won't get out of the pickup and I said, to heck with this - back to the trailer. They actually cancelled the poker run. Michael and the girl next door rode a little and got soaked. Then I decided to go get the right chain for the lt80.

The gal working asked me if I had the receipt. I looked at her blankly (sound familiar?) and told her I didn't get one, but I knew what time I bought the chain and how much the guy before me spent. She found that transaction on her computer, but not mine. After 20 minutes or so of dinking around, I asked her if she could put the numbers on the box into the system to find the price. She did, ok - there's my refund. Then she finds the correct chain (it was one number off from the one the guy sold me the day before) I pay (and got a receipt this time!) and we are on our way.

By this time it is late and dark and the weather still stinks so we hole up and hang out. About 8 or so, some different neighbors come over and ask if they could hang out. We said sure (their motorhome was leaking) and had fun - then it was bedtime.

Day 3 - two nice days, one crummy day, only one ride, genny issues, waterpump issues, a fouled plug, a snapped chain, so far, so good.

Default Puget Sound/Seattle/Northwest Area Riders Meet HERE!!!

Sunday morning came bright and beautiful!!!!!! Ha, for the people who packed up their cold wet miserable selves and left the day before. This is what we were there for! Just gorgeous! Course we had to leave, but we were gonna ride damm!t.

The neighbors we sheltered the night before put the new chain on the LT80. Ricky and Michael were all smiles and we went for a ride. It was lovely. We had a great ride and then went to the back, near the end of the one way, where the boys made a little track. Ricky's flag just broke off. What the heck? There was no one riding? One minute it was there, the next it was on the ground - wierd!

They kept riding though and then we finally headed back - I got to carry the broken flag. We couldn't fix it, because I forgot the dang tools Oh well. We got everything loaded - it took a while, but Michael and I did it ourselves. With a little direction, I backed up and hooked to my trailer myself. I towed that puppy home no problem.

I was feeling the love - I am woman, hear me roar! I noticed I was getting a lot of looks - Michael says, "Mom, you are so cool! I can't believe you are doing this." Yep, feeling strong. Then a car pulls up with a couple of guys and they say, "ma'am, your gas door is open!" and they are laughing. Michael says, "You lost all your cool points for the MONTH!" But I just grinned back at them and to quote a friend, said, "Oh that - that's my airbrake!"

I even backed into my own driveway with a little, ok a LOT!, of direction and one small tree owie.

But I know I can do it!

The quads are washed and put away, the trailer is swept out, the dirty clothes are in the laundry room, the dirty dishes have already been washed. I'm exhausted.

Tomorrow, I'll lube all the chains. I took care of the house, didnt think I needed to worry about vehicles, but I can do that too.

LESSONS LEARNED: remember tools, carry spare plugs for each bike, spare chains, mebbe a throttle cable?? I seem to remember one of those going bad on a trip. Starting fluid is good, so is a gas can even if you have a fueling station. You can cook a lot of stuff on the bbq. Oh yeah, I can handle a big azz trailer and have a good time with the kids even if there are a few speedbumps and the weather is a tad stinky.

I will get the genny and waterpump fixed before our next trip that's for sure!

Have a great night PSAR

Arriving at Beverly at 11:20 this morning to find the camping area blocked off by ambulances and a helicopter we discovered a 12 yr old boy ( est ) was riding a raptor 80 ( from the looks of it but far off ) the raptor rolled 4 times crushing the boy. The paramedics tried to keep him alive to heart flight ( helicopter (unsure of what its called) arrived but by the time it arrived the boy was already gone. The parents showed up about a hour or less later. I cant imagine the pain that family must be in. Please becarefull with your children and with whom they ride.

We stopped for gas Vantage and spoke with another guy that told us a 5 yr old boy was riding up a hill with his father when the Ute flipped over on them both landing on the small boy. His condition is not known at this time. The guy who told us said that he was white as a ghost so the outcome is not looking good. Once again. Becareful with your children. I am sure you know tihs already.
Very sad news but Rico was amazing today! he had not been out in a while so i was sceptical on how he would perform... 12 miles of rough steep track in about an hour That dog of mine is a freakin' machine
