Default Hatfield & McCoys-Do I need a spark arrestor?

We are planning a trip to the Harfield & McCoys in September and I was wondering if they have a check in area and if I need to have spark arrestors on my exhaust. The web site says that I do but I didn't know if it was inforced, been to places before where they don't enforce it.

I plan on staying in Man or Gilbert; any suggestions? There will be about 10-15 of us, company outing.

Thanks for all the help.

Why try to "get away" with something? If the website says you need one and they are the locals then I would suggest you get one. Would you really want to get caught? What if something happened and you started a forest fire?

You and you alone would be responsible for the possible shutdown of one of the greatest trail systems in America....

Not trying to be a harda$$ just trying to get you to think about how "getting away" with something as little and simple as a spark arrestor could affect you and everyone else.

I was there, at H/M, in November of 2001. I rode around and thru some of the forest fires over on the Rev. Compton Trails(Buffalo Mtn. trailhead). It made for awesome pix!
Use the spark arrestor, OK?

We just had a huge discussion on this topic............. and even the guy who didn't have enough sense to figure out the benefits of obeying the "sound" laws?...............finally figured out (and boy, it wasn't 'easy') that burning down the riding area probably wasn't the smartest thing they ever tried to get away with.

"But, will I get caught?"............seems to pretty much be the "hip" phrase in our sport's culture.................

I was down there in August. There are Rangers at the trailheads. They were very helpful.

I don't know how this applies to you performance modders and sports ATV riders but I asked the ranger about a spark arrester and whether I needed one for my 2001 Kawasaki Bayou 220. Its a utility style ATV. He said "Oh, you don't have to worry about that. They've been built-in for a few years now."

You might want to ask your dealer.

CowSaki---- if you have the original equipment exhaust system, un-modified, you DO have a spark arrester.

I know nothing about a DB limit on the H/M trails. The Rangers are generally very nice as long as riders are respectable. This time of year with all of the leaves on the ground a forest fire may beat you back too the truck.
