Where do you live at in Michigan? I'm on the East side of the State.
From what I've heard:
-Silver Lake sand dunes (west towards Traverse City)
-Bull Gap (Large Riding area near Birch Run area I think).
I have a place up in Lewiston/Waters are in the middle of the State and there is loads of trails right off of the dirt road that we're on. Old fire roads that go for 5-10 miles a piece, trails that go a good 15 miles either way from my place into the nearest towns and a few good hill climbs to hit as well. The entire State from about Grayling up is like this. There are 2-tracks that run all the way from Graying up to Indian River (near Mackinac).

Silver Lake is a blast, a lot of guys will back me up on that. The dunes will help you with your control ability and on your jumping skills. There are hundreds of miles of trails up in the Huron National Forest by Rose City/Mio/Grayling area, where BullGap is. The trails up there are nice. If you want a smaller area with some more challenging trail/hill-climbing you can try the Mounds up in Mt Morris. I'm not sure how many acres there are, but there is a sand area, lots of trails in the woods, mud, and a sandpit to practice motocross racing. I hit the Mounds usually every other weekend and it's great fun.

Michigan has a lot to offer. Visit Michigan DNR. I think the Mounds is the most southern public riding place.
