Trails in Wisconsin
Southwest of Madison, there is the Cheese Country Trail that starts in Monroe, and heads west to Mineral Point & Belmont. Total lenght is roughly 47 miles. This is a multi-use trail with specific rules. The trail is patroled, if you exceed the 30mph limit, you stand a good chance of getting a ticket. If you go off
-trail, a ticket may not be out of the question. Of course, that is if you get caught. However, best to behave yourself to help better the sport and in keeping that trail open.
There use to be a segment of that trail that headed cross-country from outside Darlington to the small community of Fayette. That trail we call the "farm trail", roughly 20 miles in lenght. Not too sure if that segment was open this year. Was closed down last year for trial maintence due to user issues.
If you just want to get out and take a liesurely ride, the Cheese Country is okay, not overly exciting, but rather scenic in spots.

I rode the Fayette trail this summer. There was a large sign that said to stay on the trail and not damage any property or they may close the trail. I can't remember if that was the exact words but it was something to that effect. I have only rode it once so I don't know how long the sign has been there.
