I rode today up near Onyx Summit, off SR-38. There's some technical trails west of the highway that are unmarked, and have some hard, crusty snow on them. The snow was probably 8 inches deep, at most. It was perfect for riding on -- soft enough to smooth out the trail, but hard enough to stay on top of. I was riding my Prairie 700.
East of the highway, on 1N01, there are some icy sections. Ice is always fun. I went down 1N01 for 7 1/2 miles. There were some snow patches here and there, but nothing a 2WD couldn't handle.

Before the fires, I use to stage at Miller Canyon (near Lake Silverwood) and then ride up to Pinnacles (behind Lake Arrowhead), and over to Deep Creek. Miller Canyon rarely gets much snow, but as you go higher, you would get into more and more snow. The Pinnacles single-track trails are a real kick when it's snowing!! You make a mistake, and you are going to be winching the bike out of a canyon!
Parts of this burned, and parts didn't. I hope the Forest Service sorts this all out by spring, and we can get some trails reopened, burned or not. I am going to do a "stealthy" scouting trip of the burned areas on the mountain bike, and see exactly what burned and what didn't. These fires have really cramped my riding style.
Is there anything to ride in the mountains, behind San Diego?? That got hit pretty bad by fires too. I did a mountain bike ride up there one spring, and there was lots of snow that year. There are also some legal OHV trails in the San Jacinto Mtns., but I have not checked them out yet.
