best place to ride in michigan?
Thanks for the info logleaper.
Question for all: I just got my first quad (Sportsman 700) for my cabin which is about 3 miles by dirt road from a spot where the Leota trail crosses the road. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm inclined to just run the quad down the road rather than trailer it to a parking lot. What are the odds of getting caught doing that? Does the DNR/Sherrif's Dept strictly enforce the no quads on the road rule in mid-Michigan?

best place to ride in michigan?
Well , I have yet to find MY ultimate trail in Michigan …always looking though …I did come close in the UP ( we/ they call it “ Scott’s trail” ) pics 17-20 after me !!!!
But I still wouldn’t rate it a 5 ( 4 at best , but one heck of a challenge, very short but sweet ) took my son’s dirt bike ( and others)
1 hour to go ½ mile up the hilly trail, people ( 5 to 10 ) STUCK EVERYWHERE !!!!
Most people thank God they eventually make it through….. too bad the trail dead ends into M-28 so you gotto do it again, this time down hill, not so bad !!!
Black lake is located just north of Onaway , top of Lower Penn. ( Cheboygan ) ,, from the top of the mountain you can/almost see lake
Huron 10 miles away. This place is ridden by MX bikers a lot more, not to many quads , this ONE system support MX’ers, Quads, Mtn bikes and horses cant beat that !!!The widths get very tight north of twin lakes road, pop size can stumps EVERYWHERE !!! ( great grilled whitefish at the Chateau Resturant there )
All I can say is bring tire plugs, lol ….. this place can claim a quad quick on the mountains side runs … some I wouldn’t even try … going up that is …
Very looonnngggg …... steeeeep and saaanndy ,,, till you get to the rocky ledges at the top , than you better hammer it !!!! you DON’T want to roll back down to safety , long ways and very narrow !!! ( Bluff’s Resort) overlooking Black Lake is a BIG PLUS and you can camp right there too !!! you have to run the Whole system to REALLY appreciate it !!! after those stumps it’ll make you think if ya want to continue ,, some don’t and turn back and miss out on one heck of a trail system.
That’s were all the grass lined 2 track are !!!
UP riding ,,, though I haven’t rode any TRUE trail system, we do though have put on about 275 miles in 2.5 days for the last 3 years
We usually start of in Hulbert ( TEQ hotel) and ride to Eckerman, to Strongs, ( lakes ) to Raco via RR grade, then we head over to the
Iroquous Hills- these are my “best trails” just West of Bay Mills ( casino ) we even go in and roll the dice for a hour or two !!!!!
Then down to Trout lake and over to the Cut River…..there is SO many “places” to ride LEGALLY up there … you just cant go wrong !!!
We even make a trip to the Tehquamenon Falls, even walk right under the falls here’s a link of previous years …..

you can go “back to” on top and see previous years too !!! ENJOY !!!
This year were heading to Marquette U.P. ( Big Bay area ) never been there yet….. also the family and I are running Pine ridge/ 2 hearts…..
And the Danaher Plains “Trail Systems” ( both are rated VERY high ) then were heading over with the rest of the group in Marquette !!!
Look like another 300+ mile weekend !!!!! I’m still LOOKING FOR MY 5 !!!!!
I have rode Windrock in Tennessee and only Black Lake can compare in the lower half !!!!! And yes Windrock is a 5 !!!! unless you don’t like endless hills and mud than it’s a 1
