It has long been rumored that there will be a new State Vehiclular Recreation Area somewhere in Riverside County. The exact location has been kept hush-hush, because they don't want anyone riding out there prematurely. Anyway, I have been hunting for clues about the exact location, and it appears that it will be "west of the cities of Beaumont and Calimesa", but I am still unsure of the exact location. Does anybody know where the "Lockheed-Laborde property" is??? Is this anywhere near where the I-10 and I-60 meet? My other guess would be somewhere out by Lambs Canyon???

The good news for me is that wherever the exact location is, it will be about 15 minutes from my house! I can probably ride out there from home on powerline roads. I hope the local people appreciate what an economic boom this will be for the community. After riding, people stop at restaurants and gas stations, etc. Look at Gorman.

Check your PMs recon. Found the info you were looking for.

Hell, it's all public information:

Facility is 2,640 acres

North of Gilman Springs Rd
West of Hwy 79
South of SR 60
East of Jack Rabbit Trail

They seem to keep referring to the areas as "Badlands" with many references to the now closed DeAnza OHV Park.

Riverside County Bourd of Supervisors motion See para 2, page 2 for location description.

Ya just gotta love google.com

This area was also an old rocket facility. Many rocky steep hills back there. The other facility is east of hwy 79 (Lambs cyn)

Years ago, we use to ride this area frequently. The canyons are pretty rugged! The terrain in many respects, reminds me of Hungry Valley. It sure isn't my first choice, when I think of great places to ride! But, maybe they will build some great trails, or something!!!

Looks like back when, the county purchased the property where the I-10 and I-60 meet, but there were problems there (environmental no doubt???), so it is a no go. There seems to be some thought that this property will become a state park, and the money for that purchase, will be recycled back into the OHV fund (http://www.santimcan.org/). Sorry, but this is some of the ugliest land in the state! Who would want a state park out there in the rattlesnake infested brush, I don't know.

Well, maybe on the bright side there won't be anything the environmental whack jobs can fight over.

How awesome! We've been hoping something would open up close to home. Does anyone know when this OHV area is scheduled to actually open?

That Brd. Of Super. approval was done April of '03. That was for the EIR, IIRC. Those usually take at least 6 mos. to a year. I'm gonna go out on a limb and best case probably at least another year. I'm sure lawsuits will be filed to stop it, so that's at least another 2 years at best. Give it 5 years in all honesty. I'm not even sure the county/state own the property yet.
