Default Memorial Day Riding in California, where is everyone going ???

Hi Baldmike!

We're still going to Calico Ghost Town. I'm bummed out though because weather.com said it's going to be windy - darn it. Riding in the wind isn't my favorite thing.

Actually, the wind wound up not being that bad. We had a lot of fun at Calico! Man, I got a great test in "technical" riding . . . some of those trails are solid rocks. I was told I passed with flying colors though! It got REALLY hot on Sunday (no wind that day).

Calico is a great place to take your dogs too - they even allow them in the "ghost town" and in most of the stores too. They even let us take them on the train ride. When we didn't feel like climing the hill to get to the town, we rode our ATV's up and locked them up in the parking lot. No one ever stopped us or said anyting. Met a lot of nice ATV riders there.

We might go up to Pismo on Father's Day weekend or the weekend after that. Do you think that weekend will be super crowded? I can't remember - do you know if we can we call ahead and make reservations there ahead of time, just in case?

Ahhh, steak sounds good!

Ridinfolks, from now through the end of September I wouldn't head to Pismo w/o reservations. It was a sell-out most weekends last year. I don't see it getting any better this year. Even with gas prices what they are.

You're kidding? After reading that other post, just to be safe I called Oceano Dunes this morning and made a reservation for June 18 & 19, checking out on June 20, and they said there was 767 spaces open. I called (800) 444-7275. At first I said "Pismo" and she told me there were only 2 reservations left, but then I said that I meant the dunes/OHV riding area and she said, "Oohhh, you mean Oceano Dunes", which was a whole different story. Maybe whomever you spoke to made the same incorrect assumption. Even though there's a lot of space open right now, I didn't want to take any chances by not having a reservation. You might want to call them back!
