THE FINAL DECISION ON WHETHER WE LOSE 90% OF THE BEACH IS THIS TUESDAY
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!! PLEASE ATTEND THE MEETING IN SAN LUIS OBISPO ON TUESDAY 4/17.
If they vote NO on the sale or lease of the property (La Grande Tract) the only beach you will have to ride on at ?Pismo? will be on the beach from pole 2 ? 6 (from March ? September). There will be almost no camping and almost no riding in the back dunes.
You need to ask yourself ? have you done everything in your power to keep this from happening? We aren?t exaggerating the impact this will have. WE NEED YOU TO ATTEND THE MEETING! The enviros outnumbered us 10 to 1 at the last 2 meetings. If that happens on Tuesday, we WILL LOSE!
The meeting starts at 9AM ? fill out a speaking slip immediately upon entering. You never know how (in what order or timing) they will run the meeting, so please be on time!
The agenda item is: C-3 for our appeal, F-1 for the sale
Where:
County Government Center
1055 Monterey Street
San Luis Obispo, CA 93408
Telephone: (805) 781-5000
Toll free: (800) 834-4636
All you need to say is that you support the sale of the land to the department of parks and recreation. Or, anything you?d like to say? speak from your heart. Be professional ? and as hard as it will be, don?t let the enviros bait you into argument -- They will lie, they will call us names, don?t let them get to you!
Please send this information to everyone you know!

Here is a letter that you can click, copy, paste & print to send in an effort to help:
San Luis Obispo County

Re: Proposed Sale of the La Grande Tract to the California State Parks
Honorable Board Members,
This letter is in support of the proposed sale of the La Grande Tract to California State Parks for continued use for camping and OHV recreation. Based on the extensive legal analysis documented in the Friends of Oceano Dunes Appeal, it is obvious that the sale is consistent with the General Plan.
The real issues are:
1. SLO correcdtions to maps were inadvertently deferred due to "other priorities."
2. Those opposed to the ODSVRA see the map confusion as a tool for strangling the park size.
3. A few homeowners, who consciously bought their properties adjacent to obvious vehicle beach-use, now want the beach closed for their personal privacy. Not all Strand homeowners agree with them.
4. Opponents to the sale/long term lease, with the objective of shrinking the park, offer no credible economic alternative to the millions spent annually.
5. As the biggest attraction in the County, with 2 1/2 times the attendance at Hearst Castle, can the Country realistically expect to attract, or be able to invest in more Hearst Castle size attractions to replace the revenue?
6. Realistically would local environmentalists support another entry which would be destructive to habitat as indicated in the Second, and most recent, Alternative Access Study?
7. Does the County desire to take on the many costs identified by State Parks, associated with re-interpreting erroneous maps? New HCP, opening accesses to private lots, policing fence lines, growing attention to species protections?
8. Lest we forget, of the 18,000 acres of the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes, only 1500 acres are used by vehicles in the ODSVRA.
In conclusion, the decision must be an economic one. The 2 million visitors to the ODSVRA spend in excess of $200m annually. The Economic Impact analysis proves that the ODSVA visitors are leaving the beach frequently to buy goods and services in town. Their attraction is in the dunes, going to town is for a purpose ... spending and returning!
I urge each Board member to not be influenced by the short term objectives of opponents of the Park and instead be guided by the vision of the future of the County economy driven by tourist dollars.
The town of Guadalupe would no doubt cherish the thought of so many tourists spending in their community.
Respectfully,
San Luis Obispo County

This thread is getting long....
That being said - You know everyone who goes to pismo goes into town for food, gas, goods, more gas, beer, more gas, more beer, restaurants, clothes, etc...
Unfortunately - the wife wants to go to yellowstone this summer in lieu of the usual pismo trip... Arrgghhhh....
There is always next time

A side of my hopes they close just to see the town go to sh*t. Close to 80% of that city's revenue is generated by us duners. The economy of that and surrounding cities will suffer a devastating blow.
I just don't understand how these people can even consider closing the dunes and destroying their economy for a bird that has probably existed for hundreds, if not, thousands of years and has had to adapt to other, more drastic, changes in its environment.
