"A side of my hopes they close just to see the town go to sh*t. Close to 80% of that city's revenue is generated by us duners. The economy of that and surrounding cities will suffer a devastating blow. "
Does anyone have any real statistics to support this, or this just us overestimating our importance? I am not criticizing ElImmagrante, just asking an important question. This is the kind of information that will impact this decision, not emotional responses. Been around enough years & enough of these kinds of issues to know that ultimately $$$$'s talk, B@llsh@t walks. Does anyone have any real cold hard facts along this line??

My statement is soley based on the feedback I've received from the businesses who have received my patronage over the past few years.
The consensus seems to be that 80% of their revenue comes from tourism. Pismo is known and visited by millions because it's the only place like it in the country. Without the dunes, Pismo would be like any other beach.
How can you ignore the fact that the majority of the local residents are employed by the businesses that will be adversely impacted by the drop in tourism. Less tourism = less revenue = less work = rise in unemployment = very, very bad economic situation.
I'm sure there are a few economists on the panel who have been employed to study the impact of closing the dunes but depending on their employer, the impact could easily be "modified" to support the environmentalists case. It's not only the responsibility of us duners to take action, but also the responsiblity of all the businesses and residents who will be adversely affected.
There is much political debate that goes on behind the scenes that we don't always get to see or hear so for all I know, even city officials could have something personal to gain if this sale is inked. Heh, I wouldn't be surprised if many end up leaving the city if the deal is indeed papered.
