pick up some paddles at chaparral's 20th annual monster block one day sale on oct 7th! hot deals on everything!!!!!!!!!!!
Slash X has restrooms and camping is huge all around and behind the Cafe. Follow the power lines and you won't get lost out there. If your safe you could make it to the 15 freeway and back. Have fun and be safe.

think that sale is worth an hour drive?
there's one in San Diego (about 30 mins away from me) on Oct 21 is why I ask and I could just as easily go there.

There's also the Midnight Madness Sale that Motoworld of El Cajon puts on a week or 2 before Thanksgiving they have a blowout on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus all kinds of motorcycle exhibitions and off road displays.

Occotillo Wells is cool. I stayed at the Roadrunner Campground when it was new about 8 years ago. The bar needs to be visited and it is called "The Iron Door" Be sure to put up your dollar bill.

There are a number of washes hills and flat areas to ride, and everyone does gather at Blowsand in the evening, though as mentioned, its a wee little "dune"

Another place to consider is Superstition....(Located between Occotillo Wells and Plaster City) lots of varied terrain, nice mud hills, washes, small canyons and the mountain itself has cool trails, a bunch of sand and a decent mid size hill called sand dam to gather at. Paddles are optional, but if you run them, prepare to stay on the mountain.

Just stay away from the military grounds!!!

We live in Carlsbad and it takes us two hours to get to Ocotillo (we went riding a few weeks ago and went east on 78), and I'm not sure about Superstition (east on 8, and when I map it, it looks like two hours). . .which do you think is a faster drive/better ride for a Saturday morning trip?

I live now in Del Mar, just moved From El Cajon. If you are just going to ride down for the day, no trailer etc. It takes about an hour and a half from El Cajon to Superstition. So if you left and did 70-75mph it may take 2-2:15 to get there. It may take a little longer, but the benefit of not having to take the slower winding 78 is a plus.

At most you may have a 15-30 minute difference, but I prefer Superstition for the more varied terrain and trails and small dunes contained on the mountain.

It only is about 10 minutes from the Dunaway Rd exit to the base of the mountain. Or you can pull off near the Plaster Plant and ride 15 minutes north to the mountain as well.

BTW, Midnight Madness is great to go to, espically for gear. I used to get new gear every year real cheap, and always pick up at least 4 pairs of Scott goggles for $10 a piece....To me goggles are disposable.
