CALIFORNIA Quad Riders report here.....
#672
We rode at Calico Ghost Town (near Barstow) over the weekend. It was great out there, and it's the only riding place that has hook-ups for the RV, and a dump too. No one bothers you AT ALL about how loud your quad/bikes are or about anything else either. We even ride our quads up into the ghost town and no one says anything. If you don't have an RV, they have 6 little log cabins (w/heating & a/c) they rent out for around $20 per night which are right next to hot showers and restrooms too.
We're still supposed to go to Ocotillo Wells this coming weekend . . . does anyone know if it's supposed to stop raining before then down there? We go the back way past Salton Sea to get there since we live in Corona. Last time we camped off of "Powerline Road", but I don't know where we'll be this time.

Thanks 400 EX Guy and Dirt Diva Mom for all of your help. Ridinfolks, I think it is supposed to rain all weekend, here is a link to the local weather at OW

Thanks for the info on Calico, sounds fun.
I will be in OW with some buddies on the 21st through the 23rd, off of Main Street, like Dirt Diva Mom suggested. Thanks again.

Budxx - If you're bringing bikes/quads you have to camp in "Lot #2" near the Ghost Town Cemetary ($21 per night for hookups, which is also where the little log cabins are.) and you just ride your quads/bikes out of the entrance right there and down the side (in the dirt) of the main road (east) not quite a 1/4 mile and there's a whole riding area there on your left. Also, as soon as you go out the entrance onto the main road, if you cross it, there's also a whole riding area on the right. Both are big riding areas - I'm not sure how many acres, but we've never run out of places to explore. There is also a big dry lake bed close by if you prefer that. You can even just dry-camp back in the riding area to the left as many people do - for free. On the left is a wide and unique variety of riding terrain - open/flat, canyons/washes, roller coaster type hills, technical rock riding, cave areas/tunnels, etc. People take their 4x4 trucks out there too. There are many caves to explore in the area. Bring your flashlight. The riding area on the right side of the road is similar to a "moonscape" wide open area with lots of whoops and some jumps - we liked riding there too. You can ask any other campers there and they'll tell you where to ride.
Calico is my husband favorite place to ride now because of the variety of terrain and especially the RV hookups - makes life so much more comfortable. We also get cell phone and TV reception there. Of course, there's also the ghost town right there with little touristy shops and a few places to eat if you'd like (not the greatest food, but the clam chowder was good). I don't think a lot of people know about this place because it's never super crowded. We've also never had problems with rude/loud campers there either. People are having their fun, but always turn the music down, etc. at 10:00pm. It's also a very dog-friendly place. They even allow you to bring your dogs into the ghost town and into most of the shops there as well. We just ride our quads up the little hill to the ghost town and lock our quads up in the parking lot there. They've never said anything to us about it.
We feel it's truly a little undiscovered gem - Uh oh, maybe I shouldn't have opened my big mouth! ha ha Take the 15 fwy east. As soon as you pass the city of Barstow, exit on Ghost Town Road and follow the signs. It's only 3 miles off the freeway in the city of Yermo. You can see the word "Calico" written on the mountainside.

Sounds like a great place! We will have to put it on our list for sure! How long does it take you to get there from Corona? I am about 2 hours south west of corona. Thanks for the info!!!
