I know between Topaz and Bridgeport there are campgrounds along 395/Walker River. But I think that is further northeast then you wanted? BlackandRed might be able to help you out around Mammoth Lake

Only place I've been around there is on a map. LOL. I've got TIFF images, USGS 7.5' Quadrangle maps. Full size scans (+/- 10MB each, 10,000 pixels wide or so.) and reduced 300dpi, 11x17 images (10% of the original size) if you want to look for maps. You can't really print these on letter size paper. Way too much detail. Or you can buy the real things at your local map store. I think I have that area. If you are interested in them, give me a hollar on her or PM. I'll put them on my server and you can grab them. Eventual goal is to accumulate most of the USGS quads for CA for riding areas. Bought a new DVD burner. Cause I need it. I have 2 sets (1 degree LAT/LONG = 64 maps each) and that is about 1.6GB of data original size. Plus I started working on some bigger maps as well.

Check back on Sunday, or shoot me a PM to remind me. I'll be gone this weekend to Pismo.

I have done several posts on this in the past. Do a search, and see what you find! We were just up there a couple of weeks ago, and had a great time!!!

What area would you like to camp in??? Close to town in a campground, or out in the bush somewhere??? Away from town you can do remote camping, but near town you have to be in a campground. Do you need some ride suggestions???

I would like to camp somewhere where we can ride our quads right out of camp. So that probably rules out any campgrounds near town. What are some good wide open scenic trails for the first timer with more of a wide open terrain. I'm riding a sport quad so I would like to stay away from the hairy stuff.

Reconranger,
I found you posting to the site containing the trail maps. They should be very helpful.

I would suggest camping at Deadman Creek. Not at either of the campgrounds, but about a half mile beyond them, do remote camping right down next to the creek (do you fish?). Search my old posts, and also do an advanced search of YZGUY (my old name) and BISHOP, and you will probably find directions. If not, let me know. From Deadman Creek, you can ride fire roads all over the place (hundreds of miles!). But, the absolute best place is Laurel Lakes! It is in the mountains south of town. Spectacular high altitude riding, and you should be OK on a sport bike.

If you go to the forest service visitors center in town, they can give you maps and directions, including the OHV map you mentioned.

Also, check my posts about venting your airbox lid for high altitude riding! I now use a "TPI" valve, http://www.thunderproducts.com/tpi_valve.htm It installs into the airbox lid, and as you ascend in altitude, you open it up for more air, and then close it as you descend. It really works, and YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY NEED IT!
