I ride with three friends in Rockaway and Jefferson, usually. Jefferson is a decent place to ride and I've never heard of anyone having trouble with the local Stasi there. Then again, that doesn't mean it's legal riding. Rockaway has a good amount of trails, but an even greater amount of horror stories involving crackdowns by local police and sting, yes, STING(!), operations being run in the middle of the woods. At least that's what I've heard from some trusted long-time local riders. So, in a nutshell, this state is horrible for off-roaders. One thing I can't seem to understand is the bitter intolerance of NJ politicians towards all-terrain vehicle activities. I can understand their hatred of freedom and lust for power and control over others, but what is the real agenda here? I would be very interested in hearing from anyone looking to secure land for riding in NJ or if anyone knows of any other somewhat safe areas to ride in this wretched state.
